Dockside Fisheries Observer - Geoduck

Archipelago is seeking honest and reliable workers to assist with the delivery of it’s geoduck dockside monitoring program in Bella Bella, BC. Hours of work can be irregular with weekend and evening work required.
DUTIES
- Monitor and document the offload activities of geoduck commercial fishing vessels and packers.
- Accurate recording of offloaded catch and weights, transmission of validation data back to fishing grounds and to Victoria and Vancouver staff.
- Monitor compliance of fishery regulations.
- Perform biological sampling of selected species if required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Highly self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible schedules including irregular hours, evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work independently, follow procedures, and meet strict timelines.
- Knowledge of the fishing industry is an asset.
- Valid BC Drivers Licence (or equivalent to) with a reliable vehicle.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Competitive wage starting at $18.00/hour with a guaranteed minimum 4-hour callout on all days worked. Hourly rates increase by length of service and hours worked to $18.98/hour, $20.19/hour and $21.55/hour.
- The work is primarily in Bella Bella but the ability to travel within the region to other fish landing ports is desirable.
*Fisheries Act and Fisheries (General) Regulations state that a person who owns, operates, manages, or is an employee of an enterprise that catches, cultures, processes or transports fish cannot be certified as a Fisheries Observer.
Note: Interviews may be conducted throughout the posting period and the position may be filled prior to the closing date.
