Manager of Employment and Training

This is a full time one year contract position.
The purposes of this position are**:
- The Manager of Employment & Training will function and interact with clients by delivering employment counselling, providing labour market information and assisting with job search strategies
- The Manager of Employment & Training will make recommendations and negotiate budget requests for skills training, apprenticeship and youth programming to a variety of funding agencies at various levels of government and provides client follow up according to established policies and procedures.
**Duties**:
The duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Career Development and Counseling
- Completion of intake and assessment on each individual client to identify employment or training needs
- Responsible for providing vocational counseling and identifying/developing career paths with clients.
- Responsible for planning and organizing job search strategy and work skills workshops
- Recommend and explore alternate funding avenues if client is not eligible for assistance through Kagita Mikam
- Clients who have approved for a funded intervention will be monitored by the Employment Officer during the intervention and at specific times following their attainment of employment to ensure the success of the intervention
- Responsible for linking clients with employment opportunities
- Curve Lake First Nation Training Programs
- Responsible for arranging upgrading programs, and for identifying and communicating employment opportunities
- Submission of written proposals and projected budgets to a variety of government agencies for potential training and job creation programs
- Accountable for programming that has been funded by outside sources such as Kagita Mikam, Canada Summer Jobs, AANDC, GRF and others as available including fulfilling reporting requirements and financial adjustments as needed
- Monitoring of group training programs, including follow up and monitoring of participants to ensure their success
- Reporting
- Maintain and keep current files updated while providing weekly reports and monthly statistical reports to Kagita Mikam to be entered into the ARMS database
- Follow up with registered clients (both funded and non-funded interventions) as requested by Kagita Mikam to close files within 6 months
- Monthly reporting to the Director of Economic Development
- Administrative
- Maintain the operations of the Employment Resource Centre
- Maintain relationships with the Education and Ontario Works departments to explore training opportunities
- Maintain office equipment, ensuring office supplies are stocked, forwarding approved travel and expense claims to both Kagita Mikam and Curve Lake First Nation as outlined in their respective financial policies
- Develop monthly work plan; project, maintain, and report on budgets throughout the fiscal year
- Work in partnership with the Economic Development Team and the Director of Economic Development to complete the annual general report
- Attend and participate in meetings with and as recommended by Kagita Mikam and/or the Director of Economic Development
- When required, participate in the Economic Development Committee as well as other committees as requested by the Director of Economic Development Coordinator and/or Chief Operating Officer
- Performs such other related duties as may reasonably be required by, Director of Economic Development and Chief Operating Officer
- Preform monthly updates to each workstation, update software programs as needed, ensure good working condition, troubleshoot when necessary\
- Communications
- Complete monthly submissions for the Curve Lake Newsletter
- Maintain social media accounts and postings
- Maintain Employment and Economic Development web pages
- Maintain job boards and postings
- Summer Student Program
- Oversee job posting and hiring
- Work with Human Resources to ensure that proper measures and procedures are being considered
- Bi-weekly payroll
- Oversee the Summer Student Coordinator, paysheets of students and summer student progress through the summer, when necessary
- Work with managers to gather job postings and work plans for all students
- Small Business Centre and MRP Building
- To manage the Small Business Centre and provide other administrative duties including
- Maintain annual leases of tenants (include MRP building)
- Upkeep of building, security, safety, etc.
- Troubleshoot problems with solutions
- Maintain budget and document all repairs, replacements
- Communication among tenants and staff of SB
- Other duties as required
- Buckhorn and Chemong Cottages (shared duties with Tourism)
- Work with Caretaker for troubleshooting problems, issues
- Other duties as required
