The Operating Room (OR) Supervisor provides direct leadership and supervision of Operating Room Attendants (ORA) and Room Based Attendants (RBA) activities within the Peri-operative Program). This role supervises day to day operations to ensure safe, efficient practices to optimize patient access. Operations related to the OR delivery model include environmental services, material management (stocking), laundry and linen, waste, recycling, patient transportation within the Peri-operative Program. The supervisor is able to inspect all operational areas of the Peri-operative Program and work collaborative with Nurse Manager(s) and Healthcare Team to identify, implement and sustain quality improvement strategies. The position requires flexible working hours (e.g. available to work flex hours including weekends if required due to operational needs).

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- 2 year community college diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources, Industrial relations and Hospitality
- ORA Certification preferred,
- OHA Environmental Services certificate -preferred
- Professional Healthcare Housekeeper certificate - preferred
- 2 to 4 years supervisory experience in a unionized environment
- Experience Hospital/OR environment required
- Working knowledge of applicable Environmental, Linen and Portering services and regulatory requirements but not limited to: applicable IPAC guidelines, PIDAC standards, ORNAC standards
- Acts; Occupational Health and safety, WSIB, Human Rights, Employment standards
- Certification in Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (WHMIS), ability to maintain records of training dates for annual review
- Comprehensive knowledge of systems and equipment used to provide services
- Able to identify and assess the learning needs of staff
- Demonstrated teaching and coaching skills
- Evidence of advanced level understanding of OR setups, carts, patient flow and expectations of peri-operative staff.
- Effective presentation and writing skills
- Effective knowledge computer skills and programs (Excel, Word and Outlook)
- Evidence of commitment to continuous education in healthcare related fields
- Demonstrated excellence in communication, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change
- Demonstrated ability to supervise numerous and diverse activities, organizing and prioritizing appropriately to meet clinical units needs and expectations
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, problem solve, make recommendations for change, implement and evaluate
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, including organizing, prioritizing, scheduling and managing work assignments.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Work as part of a highly functioning Peri-operative Management Team
- Supervise frontline teams
- Re-prioritize daily processes as many competing demands change and unforeseen issues arise
- Oversees day to day operations to ensure timely, accurate, cost effective provision of service for the Operating Rooms
- Monitors facility cleaning standards to ensure compliance with ministry, IPAC, PIDAC and CSA standards
- Creates, reviews and revises staff schedules, workload, rotations and staffing complement as required to meet the demands of the departments and maintain compliance with the
- Ensures adequate staffing of the units by proper management of human resources for relief, vacation, illness, etc.
- Advises and directs staff ORAs, RBAs. Supervises employee relations issues, promoting a teamwork environment where staff can interact productively and efficiently
- Reviews staff concerns
- Enforces hospital and departmental policies and procedures
- Conducts in-service education and training programs for OR staff
- Develops, implements and communicates performance measures; performance appraisals for direct reports, providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Demonstrates and facilitates the development of staff behaviors which are consistent with the mission and vision of both the hospital and the department
- Liaises with Clinical management group to ensure OR standards and Infection Control standards are met throughout the OR, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), ENT Clinic and Endoscopy
- Facilitates the efficient operation through development, maintenance, monitoring and evaluation of processes in the area. Develops, evaluates and implements new techniques and equipment which support the delivery of services while ensuring applicable standards and/or best practices are incorporated into the program
- Works with Occupational Health to ensure employee transitional work carrying out and participating in the disciplinary process for Peri-operative ORA and RBA staff
