**Job Summary**
- The School of Nursing is recognized for advancing nursing knowledge, practice and policy. Exceptional nurses begin and further their education and careers at Dalhousie University. Reporting to the Administrative Manager, the Simulation Lab Assistant will support the Coordinator Simulation-Based Education Lab and its users and staff, including faculty, students and lab technicians, by assisting with simulation lab operations and ensuring the proper working order and readiness of space, equipment, and supplies for programming.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Ensure necessary supplies, equipment and linen are in place and clean for scheduled simulations and labs.
- Be physically present during programming as appropriate to monitor, assess, identify, and anticipate supply, equipment and other needs, addressing needs promptly as they arise. Change linens in simulation suites. Assist with lab take-down at end of day.
- Communicate throughout work day with faculty and lab technicians to ensure programming support needs are met, including equipment, supply, custodial, site access, etc., and regarding any changes that would impact programming, e.g. supply or equipment issues, space availability.
- Ensure program space repairs are entered for resolution by Facilities Management. Follow up on all damage or repairs reported/identified to ensure problems are dealt with in a timely fashion. Contact appropriate unit for remediation if there are urgent needs impacting programming.
- Maintain detailed supplies inventory and usage data and update technicians. Ensure adequate short
- and long-term supplies are in place. Create a schedule for supply replenishment based on usage and order supplies as necessary. Ensure appropriate linen stores are in place.
- Maintain and oversee effective usage of storage spaces. Ensure arriving supply and equipment is unpacked, in good working order and correct quantity, and is placed in the correct storage location.
**Note**
Availability to work a flexible weekly schedule is required. Scheduling and compensation will be in accordance with the collective agreement.
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.
**Required Qualifications**
- High school diploma plus approximately one year’s experience in a healthcare or healthcare simulation environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Demonstrated computer skills related to hardware, software and databases, and proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Familiarity with nursing/medical equipment, supplies and terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team, including strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility and responsiveness in an ever-changing work environment.
- Ability to lift and move items up to 25 kg, stand for up to four hours at a time as well as some stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching and other movements.
**Assets**
- Experience in a high-fidelity simulation laboratory in a post-secondary learning environment.
- Experience with simulation software Laerdal (LLEAP).
