**Position Summary**:
The Janitorial Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing janitorial duties, minor maintenance, and other duties to ensure that buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner.
**Key Responsibilities/Duties**:
To work from a holistic perspective, utilizing the teachings of the medicine wheel and Seven Grandfather teachings.
To utilize Elders for teachings, healing and guidance.
To take personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness and implementation of Beendigen’s cultural teachings and organizational practices in both professional conduct and work-related deliverables.
To complete and maintain related records such as maintenance logs.
To maintain overall cleanliness of the building.
To clean offices, showers, bathrooms, and common areas.
To sweep, mop and vacuum all floor areas.
To dust all furniture, fixtures and equipment.
To wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures in the washrooms and showers.
To replenish all cleaning supplies in building including but not limited to: paper towel, soap, multi purpose sanitizing spray, and hand sanitizer.
To clean windows, empty all waste baskets, garbage cans and recycling bins.
To clean external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks, and parking lots using manual and power brooms, rakes, shovels and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow, and other refuse.
To place all garbage and recycling in the outside storage area.
To ensure all designated outdoor smoking areas are clean and in good repair.
To make minor repairs to furniture, electrical fixtures, windows, shades, faucets, doors, locks and other equipment.
To notify supervisor of any deficiencies that will require external contractors.
To use appropriate safety equipment at all times.
To ensure cleaning materials and supplies are stored in a safe and orderly manner.
To works in cooperation with other staff and contractors to correct safety deficiencies.
To carry out preventative maintenance procedures and schedules for buildings, equipment and grounds.
To ensure building and equipment meet all safety, security and fire regulations and policies.
To operate a motor vehicle to pick up and move goods and supplies.
To transport equipment, furniture and supplies manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts.
To perform general maintenance and minor repairs at other agency sites.
To pick up and drop off packages, files, and recycling at Anemki site.
To constructively participate in all team meetings, seminars and staff training sessions as required.
To ensure Health and Safety compliance in the workplace by following policies, procedures and best practices and reporting any unsafe environments.
To follow confidential handling of client information as dictated by Privacy Legislation.
To adhere to program best practices and policies and procedures.
To be prepared to work in conjunction with the philosophy and mandate of the Organization.
To preserve confidentiality of all residents, clients, staff, students, volunteers and agency information.
To represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Any other duties as requested by the Operations Manager; commensurate with role.

**Key Selection Criteria**
**Required**:
Successful completion of a high school diploma or GED.
Minimum of 1 year Janitor/ maintenance worker experience.
Demonstrated experience in residential and commercial cleaning setting.
Demonstrated understanding of the Violence Against Women sector.
Knowledge of Indigenous culture, tradition, language, and Indigenous community.
Conscientious, organized and attention to detail.
Willingness to wear personal protective apparel (mask, gloves, etc.).
Ability to adhere to the site safety policies, confidentiality and dress code.
Ontario Class G Driver’s License, use of an automobile, and appropriate insurance coverage.
**Preferred**:
Experience working in an Indigenous organization.
Ability to speak Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
Ability to use hand and electrical tools.
Ability to read technical manuals and drawings.
Knowledge of a variety of cleaning supplies and cleaning equipment.
Hard-worker with high attention to detail and have a strong work ethic.
Strong customer service and excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
Suitability to work in an Indigenous congregate living setting.
Ability to adhere to the site safety policies, confidentiality, and dress code.
