Company Overview: We are a metal processing company that specializes in the production of high-quality custom metal products from Metal plates, beam, tubing, and the like for several customers around the province.
Job Summary: Reporting to the Warehouse Coordinator the Material Handler will be responsible for moving materials and supplies around the production of our equipment and shipping requirements. This includes loading and unloading trucks, moving raw materials to the production line, and managing our revolving inventory and sold products. The Material Handler will be expected to operate heavy machinery, such as a Multi Directional Combi lift, conventional forklifts, cranes, and hoists, in a safe and efficient manner. They must have strong communication skills, able to understand work and sale orders, have experience in an industrial environment, are reliable and self motivated.
Physical Demands: The Material Handler will be required to perform physical tasks that include lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods of time. They must be able to lift to 50 pounds and operate heavy machinery. The Material Handler will also be exposed to extreme temperatures and loud noises while working in the production plant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy machinery, including forklifts, cranes, and hoists, to move materials and supplies around the plant.
- Load and unload steel products from trucks using a multi directional combi-lift, conventional forklifts, overhead cranes and other equipment
- Move raw materials to the production line and store finished products in designated areas.
- Communicate with production and operator leads to ensure material requirements are met.
- Coordinate the receipt and inspection of raw materials and finished products.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Participate in the development of standard operating procedures for handling material as it relates to safety and productivity.
- Perform quality checks on materials to ensure they meet specifications and report any issues to management.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of all materials and supplies.
- Assist in other areas of the plant as needed, including production and shipping and recieving departments.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any issues to maintenance personnel.
- Attend safety and training meetings as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in material handling, preferably in a steel production environment
- Must be able to operate heavy machinery, including forklifts, cranes, and hoists.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work independently or as part a team.
- Computer skills and the ability to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Able to read, understand and react to work orders and shipping routers accurately with consistency.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime as needed.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Must be able to pass a drug test if required.
