Children’s Support Worker

Bethesda’s Children’s Services Department requires six (6) part time Children’s Support Workers. Working to promote Bethesda’s vision and mission statement and quality client care, the Children’s Support Worker will provide home and community-based support for children and youth with complex needs and their families. This position will report to the Manager of Children’s Services. Children’s Support Workers will implement Behaviour Support Plans that are written and supervised by a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA).
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Work collaboratively with children/youth, their families and other community agencies to provide respite, behaviour management and skill development for children/youth with complex behaviour and support needs.
- Implement Behaviour Support Plans and Applied Behaviour Analytic (ABA) programming to reduce risk-behaviour and support skill development for children with complex needs.
- Work in center-based clinic setting, family homes and community settings.
- Engage children/youth by sourcing out fun and exciting programming, activities and skill building opportunities in the community. Support children/youth to participate in these activities and events.
- Consult and liaise with internal and external service providers.
- Collect data and use Microsoft Excel to graph data.
- Support children/youth engaging in risk behaviour while remaining calm, neutral, and effectively using non-violent crisis intervention strategies.
- Participate in supervision meetings by providing suggestions, creative ideas and recommendations for supporting the children/youth on your caseload.
- Administrative tasks as required including documentation and resource development.
- Other duties as assigned
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- College Diploma in Psychology, Autism and Behavioural Science, Developmental Services or a related field. A University degree is an asset.
- At least one (1) year experience working with children/youth with developmental disabilities, autism or complex behavioural and /or mental health needs.
- Knowledge and experience using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) principals.
- Strong communication and writing skills
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Bilingual in French is an asset
- Strong attendance record
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
- First Aid Training
