**Job Summary**
The Inclusive Support Staff is responsible for providing support to children within the assigned programs. MPCCA Childcare provides programs to children from around the community and provide inclusive support as needed.
Reporting to the Inclusive Coordinator and Center Manager, the Inclusive Support Staff participates as a member of a team and assists in the ongoing planning, implementing of adaptations and strategies as outlined in the child’s IPG (individual goal plan) and/or program goal plan. The support takes place primarily within the designated childcare settings, under the direction of the Program Supervisor and Inclusive Coordinator. These positions will require physical and mental attentiveness to ensure the personal safety of child(ren) and/or staff. Depending on need, certain positions may also require physical function and medical assistance, wheelchair transfer and implementing behaviors safety plans. The requirements will vary depending on the individual child(ren) assigned. MPCCA provides inclusion to support children and programs holistically. Inclusion support varies depending on the needs of children and programs. Hours vary from 12-25 hours
**Required Qualifications/Experience**
- Post-secondary training such as Special Education Assistant certificate or Early Childhood Education/Special Needs OR an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Minimum 2 years experience working with children who require extra support
- Minimum 2 years experience working with children
- Recent experience & training in neurodivergent
- Emergency child care first aid w/ CPR B
- Criminal Record Check
- Proven success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with parents, teachers, and students with exceptional needs
- Ability to operate various types of special equipment or willing to train.
- Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments.
- Good organizational, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Ability and dedication in working with students with diverse physical, social and cognitive needs.
**Reports to**: Inclusive Coordinator and Center Manager
**Overall Responsibilities**:
- Participate in activities with all children to create inclusion.
- Touch base with Coordinator weekly to follow up on ongoing progress and or other support needed.
- Responsible for documenting and report suspected child abuse to supervisors and the Ministry.
- Responsible to fill out minor incident’s logbook.
- Understand the MPCCA policies and procedures, demonstrate and role model the Inclusion Philosophy and Vision
- Follow the program’s procedures for maintaining health records, administering medication, first aid and emergency evacuation procedures.
- Ensure the children’s environment is healthy and safe by monitoring for hazards in play materials, equipment and surrounding.
- Act as a resource and support to all family members.
- Ensure interactions with parents/guardians are positive and respectful.
**Responsibilities for Individual Support**:
- Contribute to the development and implementing of IPG’s or care plans for children requiring extra support; create safe and engaging environments in/outdoors for children
- provide alternative plans; take an emergent approach by identifying the abilities, interests, and needs for induvial children.
- Take part in family meetings monthly and/or as required
- Use daily journal to record tools used, daily events that may have been achieved or of some concerns.
- Work with appropriate third-party support during class visits.
- Assist children with toileting/diapering if required - depending on care plan
- Attend monthly program planning meetings with class educators and Inclusive Coordinator.
- There may be other responsibilities depending on needs of the child(ren)
- Provide reports on the progress, using the IPG plan and check in forms. Provide Coordinator with lists of resources as needed using the applied forms.
- Assist the Educators/Leaders and coordinate the participation and involvement of all team members in the care of children with extra support needs. (try to stay away from shadowing unless a child has a designation that requires one to one support
**Responsibilities for Program Support**:
- Provide support to staff as needed through transitions
- Assist with behaviour guidance that align within MPCAA Policies and Procedures
- Create Program Goal Plans that support a successful outcome for all
- Assist the Educators/Leaders and coordinate the participation and involvement of all team members in the care of children with extra support needs. (try to stay away from shadow unless a child has a designation that requires one to one support
**Staff Relations**
- Support a cooperative team approach of caring for all children, and that includes helping to meet each staff’s professional and personal needs.
- Participate in monthly staff meetings
- Communicate directly with staff members
