**Rate**: $45,000 per annum + benefits after 3 months

The Youth Outreach Worker (YOW) Program is an initiative for at-risk youth ages 11 to 21 years old and their families in Malton. It is designed to help empower and provide them with individualized programming to meet their unique needs and circumstances.
**Duties**:
- Active outreach in the community to support at-risk youth, assist clients in advocating for their needs, and assist in navigating the health, education and social service system.
- Provide referral and advocacy for youth that may include but not limited to, education, job preparation services, career development, gang intervention and mediation services, gang diversion, family support services, housing, crisis intervention, recreation, mental health, etc.
- Engage parents and family members through existing community services and provide education and information on issues relating to parenting.
- Deliver group and individual support. Establish trusting relationships with youth and act as a mentor to encourage youth to reduce unhealthy behavior and to encourage social inclusion.
- Maintain current and develop new partnerships with a wide variety of agencies to develop a system of support for youth in the community and attend relevant community meetings.
- Meet, liaise and network with community stakeholders such as schools, faith Centres, social services and other organizations to address and promote opportunities for youth.
- Routinely compile, enter, and report confidential data at agency and funder’s request. Client documentation, in reporting systems.
- Ensure that all necessary reports are completed and submitted to the appropriate sources, meeting set deadlines.
**Qualifications**:
- Diploma in Social Work, Social Service Work, Child and Youth Work, Psychology, relevant Sciences or the Humanities is required. BSW will be an asset.
- Minimum 2 years of directly related experience (obtained within last 5 years) working with and engaging at-risk youth (12-25) within Black and LGBTQ communities.
- Knowledge of assigned client population and issues such as diversity, gangs, violence, substance abuse, racism, and harassment as they relate to youth and the ability to deal with issues as they arise.
- Strong familiarity with the Malton community and knowledge of youth services in the community
- Experience working collaboratively with community partners.
- Proven skills in conflict resolution, conflict de-escalation, advocacy and negotiation.
- Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. A second language will be an asset.
- Ability to work effectively independently and in a wide variety of settings in the community.
