**Athlete Compliance Officer**:
**Primary Purpose**:
The Athlete Compliance Officer (ACO) is responsible for managing the eligibility and compliance of the over 400 student-athletes that compete across 15 varsity teams in Huskie Athletics. The position will ensure compliance with all Canada West and U SPORTS rules and regulations as it relates to student-athletes and intercollegiate athletics. The incumbent will monitor eligibility of all 400 student athletes and contribute to the adjudication and compliance of athletic awards/scholarships.
**Nature of Work**:
Reporting the Associate Athletics Officer, Program Operations, this position will work in a fast-paced environment with competing demands. This position requires strong decision making, problem solving, and discretion to best support student athletes’ academic planning and is driven by constant deadlines, continuous changes, and shifting priorities. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical. The consequence of error is significant in this position and could result in reputational damage to the University, the Varsity Athletics program and student athletes if there were errors in eligibility.
**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:
**Compliance and Eligibility**
- Manages the eligibility status of all 400 student-athletes, which includes regular monitoring and ensuring compliance with University, Canada West conference, and U SPORTS regulations.
- Advises student-athletes on their continuing athletic eligibility requirements as they relate to their respective athletic association and conferences.
- Researches, prepares and delivers educational programs and literature for student-athletes, coaches, athletic department employees and university personnel.
- Identifies gaps in current offerings, researches, proposes and supports new initiatives, and launches new tools and forums for communications that enhance coaches and student athlete understanding of eligibility, compliance, awards and scholarships.
- Manages the eligibility and compliance reporting process, which includes ensuring that eligibility data is compiled, analyzed, reviewed, and submitted. Other responsibilities include financial award analysis and reporting, Academic All-Canadians nominations, Champions of Character nominations as well as, all required annual and year end conference reporting.
- Participates and contributes to the development and review of the Athletic Department policies and procedures regarding compliance matters; assist in monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of the compliance practices of the department.
- Acquires and maintains a strong, current working knowledge of all areas of eligibility and compliance rules and regulations within Canada West Conference and U SPORTS.
- Monitors when an athlete becomes ineligible and advises Associate Athletics Officer, Program Operations, athlete and coach. Work with athlete and coach to provide a plan
- Manages and prepares waiver or appeals requests for U SPORTS.
**Awards and Scholarships**
- Responsible for assessing and monitoring student-athlete award eligibility according to university, government, conference, U SPORTS.
- Responsible for AFA distribution including providing coaches with their AFA team spreadsheets for AFA meetings, and distributing athletic awards and scholarship information to coaches
- Advises student-athletes on athletic award eligibility.
- Complete the year end reporting to U SPORTS and any other institutional or government reporting.
- Contributes to the establishment of award and scholarship policies and practices through collaboration with other department units, coaches and Student Financial Services, to ensure consistency of practice and high level of service to student athletes.
**General Student-Athlete Services Administration**
- Oversee and deliver the _First Year Transition_ sessions (September - October), and contributes to the implementation of new student athlete support initiatives, as identified through student advising sessions and coaches feedback sessions.
- Manage Huskie Athlete early registration process.
- Research, develop, and oversee framework for Huskie Athlete Leadership Program.
- Gathers, runs analytics and effectively reports student-athlete related data as requested by various department units and cross campus units.
- Oversee the plan and deliver the annual student-athlete orientation sessions in conjunction with Huskie Health and Huskie Sport Information Officer.
- Manages the administration of the student-athlete housing program, including but not limited to: student athlete housing allocation submissions, housing communications with coaches and student athletes as well as, the fostering and maintaining of a positive working relationship with student housing.
