Job Purpose:
Responsible for the daily functioning of the housekeeping operations of Winnipeg Centre of Hope programs by maintaining cleanliness of all Offices, Common Areas of building and all Residential Floors; completing of laundry duties as required.

Characteristic Job Duties:

- Work in partnership with Housekeeping Manager and other staff to address challenges within your role and scope of duties when needed, creating solutions as a team when situations arise.
- Ensure with assistance from other employees in the department a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness in all areas assigned
- Learn, maintain, and abide by provincial standards for cleaning and working with health care facilities, providing an efficient, safe, clean and sanitary environment for Winnipeg Centre of Hope participants, staff and visitors who use premises.
- Conduct basic cleaning duties in all offices, common areas and client areas (stairwells, janitorial closets, individual/dorm residential rooms, toilet rooms, tub and shower rooms). Examples of this would be removal of garbage, sweeping, mopping, dusting (windows, walls, handrails) and addressing linen needs (bedding and curtains). Other duties include laundry and vacuuming when needed.
- Sweep and wet mop all floors daily recognizing some areas may require multiple cleaning during the day. Also change broom and mop heads accordingly so as to not allow bacteria and odors to develop. Disinfect mop bucket periodically with proper cleaners (Javex is to be used in small amounts) to keep water and mop free of bacteria.
- Prepare room for participants once a room has become available for occupancy, by completing any required dusting, sweeping and cleaning of entire room.
- Ensure all floors are kept clear of any garbage and boxes for safety and protection by removing and either placing in dumpster or storage as required.
- Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner, documenting and reporting to Manager or designate any unsafe or hazardous working conditions.
- Replenish daily supplies such as paper towel, soap, toilet paper, and base supplies on housekeeping carts.
- Assist in maintaining the proper rotation/supplies of any housekeeping stock
- Maintain confidentiality during interaction with participants, staff, and professionals showing respect for everyone’s right to privacy.
- Monitor significant issues and events that may be affecting a change in participant’s health status and daily living. Report such change to Manager.
- Assist Management by providing feedback with the orientation, developing and training of new employees.

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required:
The performance of the job requires frequently operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting/ shoveling snow etc.

Concentration Required:
The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized equipment and general cleaning. Ability to work independently; maintain confidentiality; while part of a larger team, projecting a positive, professional and helpful attitude

Responsibility for Human Resources:
The incumbent is responsible for their own time and effort only. They may demonstrate work methods to new employees.

Work Environment:
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the entire facility and surrounding property designated.

Exposure to Hazards:

- Sharp objects (ie: needle pricks)
- Electrical hazards
- Repetitive strain injuries (ie: back, wrist)
