**Duties**:
Working in the Rail Safety Directorate at Transport Canada, Regional Railway Inspectors are responsible for monitoring railways to promote compliance with acts and regulations as well as working with railways in identifying and reducing risks.
What you will be doing:
- Conducting inspections and audits of railway facilities and operations within the region, and recommending compliance and/or enforcement actions as required;
- Providing technical advice and guidance to stakeholders in the railway industry;
- Participating in the planning and implementation of the regional inspection and monitoring program.
**Work environment**:
Travel is required, both locally and regionally, and occasionally nationally, for inspection and training activities. Duties will be performed in an office environment as well as various indoor and outdoor environments such as railway sites or yards and under varying weather conditions.

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
Degree equivalency

Significant* operational experience working as locomotive engineer OR yardmaster OR training instructor OR rail traffic controller OR operation experience working as a conductor OR transportation/operations supervisor or some combination of experience of all at a railway in Canada.
- Significant experience is defined as having performed a broad range of various and complex activities normally acquired over a period of at least five (5) years.

Successful completion of a post-secondary program from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Degree equivalency
Experience working as a locomotive engineer at a railway in Canada.
Experience working in an operations supervisory role at a railway in Canada.
Experience working as a training instructor at a railway in Canada.
Experience working in an occupational health and safety environment.
Experience working as a rail traffic controller in a railway in Canada.
Experience working as a conductor on the main line at a railway in Canada.

**Conditions of employment**:
Reliability Status security clearance
Required to pass a pre-employment Category III medical for Transportation Security Inspectors and pass a periodic Category II medical every 5 years.
Possession of a valid provincial or territorial driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.
