An exciting Temporary Full-Time opportunity as a Communications Advisor exists in the Strategic Communications Department, reporting to the Manager, Public Affairs. The incumbent will work collaboratively with departments across the hospital to amplify and celebrate achievements that demonstrate WCH’s leadership role and further the vision of creating a healthier and more equitable world. They will support teams across the hospital to develop, implement and measure internal, external and digital communications program. Working in a challenging and dynamic environment, the incumbent will be an energetic, flexible, self-started interested in playing an integral role in a broad range of strategic communications activities.
Summary of Duties, but not limited to:
- Proactively identify opportunities to advance the organization’s vision, mission and purpose and its priority clinical programs through integrated communications plans that include internal, media, social media and web-based communications
- With input from clients and support from the Strategic Communications team, conceptualize, plan and produce a range of communication and marketing materials including web content, social media posts, reports, newsletters, educational materials, etc.
- Under the guidance the Manager, develop and implement communication plans and activities that support and drive our organization’s corporate priorities.
- Uncover and share captivating, timely, impactful stories that could live across our communication channels, such as our websites, social media channels and newsletters.
- Act as the communications expert by bringing your knowledge of leading communications practices to committees, special projects, and in advising our spokespeople and leaders.
- Collaborate with peers, including other Communications Advisors, Digital Services and the Foundation to deliver communication plans and materials and leverage expertise, effort and reach.
- Ensure communications is aligned with the WCH brand and strategic direction.
- Plan and manage key events including announcements/media conferences, days of recognition, webinars, staff recognition initiatives, etc.
- Recommend metric and feedback mechanisms to enhance communication strategies
- Proactively identify and organize media opportunities to profile and pitch stories to local, national and international media outlets and publications.
- Support the response to media inquiries related to WCH programs, experts and research. Escort on-site media and mange follow up. Provide briefing notes as needed
- Write media releases and news articles.
As a role model and champion, you will work to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care.

**Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in public relations, communications or journalism or post-graduate certificate in communications
- 5-8 years corporate communications/public affairs experience
- Experience in non-profit, public sector or healthcare an asset
- Strong media relations skills and relationships
- Advanced writing and editing skills
- Experience with web management/content management systems an asset
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical, planning and project-management ability
- Understanding of all facets of communication principles and best practices
- Ability to manage multiple and often competing priorities and work under tight deadlines with a positive attitude
- Ability to work in a complex environment that has a wide range of objectives, issues, stakeholder and operational factors
- A responsible self-starter who is diplomatic, outgoing, and has a strong work ethic and ability to provide outstanding customer service
