We work together with other partners and clients to ensure informed decisions are made, helping to manage and protect natural resources effectively, while fostering a positive and supportive environment. **The Role**: The Advisor, First Nations Relations is a vital role that involves guiding respectful consultations about the use of natural resources on Crown land, carefully considering the impact on First Nations' traditional use areas. In this position, you will use your excellent communication skills to build strong relationships with First Nations communities, industry partners, and government agencies, ensuring all legal and procedural requirements are met. By fostering collaboration and understanding, you will help ensure decisions are made thoughtfully and respectfully, with a focus on community needs and environmental stewardship. **Qualifications**: **Education and Experience Requirements**: - Degree related to the natural resource sector (e.g., forestry, resource management, agrology, environmental science) or equivalent; an equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered. - Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues. - Significant experience working with First Nations communities and collaborating and consulting with First Nations. Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following: - those who identify as Indigenous; - those with experience engaging in strategic-level negotiations with First Nations; and/or, - those with experience engaging First Nation communities whose territories overlap with the Sunshine Coast Natural Resource District. Provisos: - Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent. - Meet safety standards of WorkSafeBC. - May be required to operate a variety of equipment. - Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions. **About this Position**: Amendment June 23rd, 2025: posting closing date extended to July 7th, 2025. There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available. This position is located in Powell River. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment. An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Powell River. A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
