**BASIC FUNCTION**:
This position is responsible for:

- The collection and maintenance of accounts within a portfolio as assigned.
- Meeting the specific objectives set for the team

**NATURE AND SCOPE**

The Billing & Collection Summer Student’s work is performed according to set accounting policies and practices. The assigned portfolio consists primarily of private individuals. Problems of an unusual nature are directly referred to the incumbent’s supervisor.

**PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Adherence to Calea’s commitment to, and policy on “Patient Safety”.
- Following established guidelines, contacting customers by telephone and correspondence, for collection of outstanding accounts and balance.
- Ensure customer accounts are fully reconciled on a timely basis.
- Maintain customer accounts as assigned.
- Ensure timely issuance of billings.
- Prepare manual invoices and credits as required.
- Sort and mail invoices to customers.
- Liaison with customers re: invoice discrepancies
- Timely processing of approved customer credit/re-bill adjustments
- Monitor customer aging and follow up on invoices in question in a timely manner to resolve disputes and expedite collection.
- Maintain customer files including contract history and a record of all customer interactions.
- Perform other related duties that may arise or be assigned.

**RELATIONS WITH OTHERS**

Internally, the Billing and Collections student interacts daily with all staff within Calea. Externally, the incumbent liaises regularly with the accounts payable departments of customers as well as private payers as applicable.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Basic knowledge of general accounting principles
- Intermediate computer skills with the ability to learn new programs quickly and use them efficiently. Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel is mandatory.

- Must be able to work independently as well within a team
- Must have the ability to prioritize and schedule daily activities while working under tight time constraints
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
- Good communication skills with the ability to deal positively with all levels within and outside the organization

- Ability to work with mínimal supervision
