**JOB SUMMARY**

In consultation with Elders, Traditional Healers, Developmental Services and under the direction of the Director of Developmental Services, the Indigenous Liaison Worker will support the development and practices of community traditional healing services and functions offered by SLFNHA.

The Indigenous Liaison Worker will report directly to the Program Manager.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)
- Previous experience or training in traditional/cultural healing services;
- Knowledge of the people, culture, language and the health priorities of the First Nations communities in the Sioux Lookout District;
- Ability to communicate in one or more of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux lookout District will be an asset;
- A certificate, diploma or degree in a health-related field;
- Two years’ experience in the health services field;
- Background in teaching would be an asset;
- Professional integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality is essential;
- Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License
- Good working knowledge and experience in time management, excellent organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently;
- Ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide assistance and support to Developmental Services Unit and facilitate access and provide traditional healing and other culturally appropriate programming;
- Document services provided to clients
- Coordinate referrals to appropriate services
- Provide information and/or guidance regarding Traditional values and spirituality;
- Maintain a standardized resource library or teaching materials
- Reinforce concepts of holistic health from an aboriginal perspective;
- Consult with elders, traditional persons, healers and medicine people concerning traditional medical practices and beliefs;
- In conjunction with Clinical Supervisors and Project Leads, will plan and organize community awareness of traditional beliefs and health practices, as requested by communities;
- As requested by Developmental Services Unit and community, consult with elders, herbalists, medicine people and traditional healers, to facilitate sweat lodge and other healing ceremonies;
- Facilitate cross-cultural understanding and awareness among health professionals concerning traditional medicine;
- Seek advice of elders, herbalists, spiritual healers and medicine people concerning the ongoing development of this initiative;
- Any other functions as directed by direct supervisor;

**OTHER DUTIES**
- Coordinate traditional healing activities with the communities and Clinical Supervisors;
- Submit monthly reports and annual activity objectives;
- Responsible for attending all staff meetings;
- Participate in teachings in the areas of Anishinabe languages, culture and healing practices as required;
- Facilitate training of individual staff;
- Work as a team member in multi-disciplinary setting;
- Work closely with FASD Team and Autism Diagnostic Hub to provide cultural support post diagnosis.
- Work in collaboration, and consultation with the Anishinaabewaadiziwin department

**WORK CONDITIONS**
- Must be willing and able to travel.
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours.
- Required to work days, sometimes evenings and weekends, if necessary.
- Overtime as required.
