In 2015, the District of Sechelt commissioned one of the most innovative and advanced LEED certified wastewater treatment plants in Canada - our Water Resource Centre. This is a state of the art, tertiary level, membrane filtration, wastewater treatment plant rated as a Class IV facility.

**Nature of the Position**
This hands-on position operates, monitors and maintains complex systems within the wastewater treatment plant and sanitary sewer collections system while supporting regulatory compliance and ensuring efficient plant performance. With a strong focus on safety, environmental compliance, and teamwork, this role offers a dynamic, supportive and rewarding work environment.
**'Required Competencies**
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- BC EOCP certification in Wastewater Treatment Level II or III (or the ability to obtain certification within the probationary period). Inter-provincial equivalent certifications will also be considered.
- Three (3) or more years’ experience operating and maintaining a wastewater treatment facility
- Ability to work shift schedules including evenings, weekends and holidays as required, and to report to the Water Resource Centre within 30 minutes in the event of a call out
- Valid BC class five driver’s licence (or interprovincial equivalent) with clean drivers abstract
- Working experience in the mechanical and electrical work related to sewer treatment installations
- Ability to accurately record measurements into a database, analyze results, and provide recommendations
- A professional, responsive, and positive work attitude and ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with others
- Ability to lift, carry, push and pull heavy loads and perform other physically demanding work
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and demonstrate sound judgement and decision making
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully one-on-one or in a group environment
- Basic computer aptitude and proficient with the the Microsoft 365 suite of software
**Working Conditions**
This is a regular, full-time unionized role within the BCGEU. The hourly wage for the position will vary based on the EOCP Wastewater Treatment certification held:
**Level I**$34.52 - $38.36
**Level II**$37.41 - $41.58
**Level III**$40.59 - $45.09
**Level IV**$42.36 - $47.07
As operators achieve higher certification levels, they are automatically advanced to the corresponding wage grid—empowering career growth without needing to wait for internal vacancies.
The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, but flexibility to work overtime for evening or weekend call outs is required. The District supports employment equity in accordance with the Human Rights Code of BC.
