**The Opportunity**
- Regularly meet with fire service members to assist in developing and maintaining a progressive and efficient training program. Determine training needs; identify and implement modifications; and stay current with educational opportunities that the level of training delivered serves the needs of the fire service
- Maintain training records and analyze training statistics to provide input on future budget requirements
- Provide regular updates to the Deputy Fire Chief of potential changes in technology, procedures and/or methods necessary to maintain and/or improve the fire training programs
- Assist in the volunteer firefighter recruitment process and promotional examinations
- Provide instruction to fire service personnel for promotional examinations, and provide resources to assist with career development activities
- Ensure a safe training environment by establishing safety plans for learning activities/scenarios, including ongoing risk/hazard analysis. Enforce fire service guidelines, SOPs etc. in all training
- Research and evaluate fire service policies, operating guidelines, techniques and equipment to ensure that they are current and valid and that they reflect best practices within the fire industry
- Attend assigned post-emergency evaluations; facilitate and analyze post-incident reviews to identify training needs
- Maintain responsibility for assigned duties within the departmental and/or corporate Business Continuity Plan
- Respond to emergency incidents as directed
- Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned
- Be responsible to work and ensure that all staff supervised; work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, the Town of Caledon Occupational Health, Safety and Workplace Violence Policy and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
- Responsible for the safe operation/use of vehicles, equipment and facilities
- Training Officer Certification from the Ontario Fire College or Fire Instructor NFPA 1041 Level II
- Successful completion of Fire Fighter NFPA 1001 Level II
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in fire suppression
- Certifications of Safety Officer NFPA 1521 or OFMEM equivalency, Blue Card Incident Command Training and Certification, Fire Officer NFPA 1021 Level I or OFMEM equivalency considered a strong asset
- Demonstrated ability to instruct, develop, and deliver training in all areas of Fire & Emergency Services operations including but not limited to: ice/water rescue, rope rescue, trench rescue, confined space rescue, emergency medical response, advanced extrication, hazardous materials response, etc.
- Demonstrated experience in incident command, and incident safety officer systems
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills in order to conduct training and workshops
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office skills and training/media presentation technologies. Experience and proficiency in e-learning, virtual reality simulation and other multi-media training platforms
- Must possess and maintain a valid, Class “D” Ontario Driver’s License with “Z” endorsement with no more than 3 demerit points
- Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check
- Be able to work in a co-operative professional environment, execute departmental direction and maintain confidential and private information
- Preference will be given to internal applicants
