Position Summary
The Director, Transportation & Logistics leads in supply chain/logistics/transportation in a complex, multi-product commodity in industrial forest products that distributes globally. The Director is responsible for leading an integrated logistics organization, delivering targeted products including ties, lumber, and poles to selected customers on time at the lowest possible cost. This role manages all aspects of transportation and logistics to include inbound, outbound, and transfers between locations. The Director works closely with Procurement, Operations, and Sales, establishing working relationships across the business along with building relationships with all modes of carriers.
Principal Responsibilities
- Primarily responsible for managing the corporate traffic department for ties, lumber, and poles in the Stella-Jones network.
- Manages all reloads and distribution centers for Stella-Jones.
- Develops and measures KPI’s in all areas of Transportation and Logistics.
- Develops annual budgets for transportation.
- Manages finished goods yard budget.
- Engage team to develop annual cost reduction projects and measure results.
- Responsible for all rate and contract negotiations with rail and truck carriers.
- Develops pricing and market strategies for ties, lumber, and poles to maximize profits for Stella-Jones.
- Is involved in equipment utilization studies and oversee and manage private lease car fleets.
- Negotiates lease car contracts: terms, conditions, and rates.
- Has excellent rapport with rail, sea, and truck carriers.
- Responsible for all DOT issues relating to company trucks.
- Notifies each division for ties, lumber, and poles of the transportation trends and changes affecting their business.
- Manages and supports direct reports and ensures transportation processes are followed for each commodity.
- Supports and cooperates with other Department Managers.
- Works closely and collaboratively with the Sales Department in all aspects of job responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned including tracing, expediting shipments, diverting and reassigning cars, auditing freight bills, filing claims, and reviewing contracts and tariffs.
- Participates and contributes to company safety program.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B. A.) in Logistics or a combination of education and experience.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- License/Certification: Valid Driver’s License, Clean Driver’s License Abstract.

- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Problem-solving: ability to be ready with solutions when problems arise, and/or be ready to anticipate problems before they happen.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to question from groups of Managers, clients, carriers, customers, and the public.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Ability to travel up to 80%.
- 40+ hours a week will be required as determined by workload/travel.
