**POSITION TITLE**: Child and Youth Worker (CYW)

**REPORTS TO**:Manager, Support Services

**LOCATION**:Sherwood Park, Alberta

**TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT**: Permanent Full Time - 40 hours weekly. Schedule to be determined but will include evenings and weekends.

- **A Safe Place **_provides support and resources to overcome domestic abuse. The Strathcona Shelter Society operates an emergency shelter for women and children, a crisis and family violence information line, community outreach, and public education to end domestic violence in our community.

**POSITION OVERVIEW**
To create a safe space in the shelter for children to engage in age appropriate care and programming in keeping with the Mission Statement and Philosophy of the Strathcona Shelter Society - A Safe Place.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. Create and maintain a safe space in the shelter for children.
2. Develop non-judgmental and supportive relationships with children and their mothers.
3. Provide care to children while mothers are engaged in their own programming activities.
4. Utilize creative age appropriate activities that allow children to learn and express themselves through play.
5. Facilitate positive parent/child interactions by providing information and by role modeling appropriate behaviors.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED**
1. Diploma in Early Childhood Development or equivalent.
2. Previous experience working with children.
3. Previous experience as a Parent Educator and/or fluent in additional languages considered an asset.
