**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
LEX Scientific is looking to fill a full-time position for a laboratory analyst in Guelph. Primary responsibilities will be related to asbestos analysis, however, fungal spore analytical abilities are an asset. Analytical methods include polarized light microscopy, phase contrast microscopy and brightfield microscopy.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:

- Preparation, detection, identification, and quantification of materials for the presence of asbestos content using visual estimation percentage and properties of asbestos and non asbestos material by PLM.
- Preparation and analysis of asbestos air samples by PCM.
- Preparation, identification and quantification of air/swab/tape/bulk samples for fungal analysis by light microscopy.
- Coordination of sample analyses and data review of all incoming samples based on priority and turn around times.
- Maintaining the QA/QC Program and Standard Operating Procedures
- Assist in daily laboratory operations, including stocking, cleaning, and providing coverage of the front desk and phones when needed.
- **QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Geology and Biology) or other suitable diploma (College).
- 1-3 years of experience with asbestos characterization by polarized light microscopy (PLM).
- Applicant must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis.
- Good understanding of Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC)
- Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a demanding work environment.
- Good Communication Skills (May have some client interaction).
- Able to work independently and with a team.
- Must be able to work well under pressure and meet short deadlines.
- Must be able to work some weekends or after hours as needed.
