In partnership with professional mentors and role models, program participants are given the opportunity to see the world in new ways, learn how to explore and ask questions about their surroundings, and experience meaningful personal development. We are seeking a proactive visionary **Program Manager** to execute the strategic management and development of our organization, with direction from the Board of Directors. This role requires a big-picture thinker who can set and achieve long-term goals, while ensuring smooth operations at every level. As the Program Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the success of G*OIC programming. You will report to the Board of Directors and work closely with the Program Administrator, The Alpine Club of Canada, volunteer Officers and other key stakeholders to ensure our expeditions remain impactful, sustainable, and true to our mission.The Program Manager works part-time hours, primarily online, managing a large team of volunteers and engaging with the Board of Directors. Their availability is required to be flexible and timely communication is of utmost importance. In-person tasks relate to onsite collaborative work with the G*OIC community, partners, and representation at events.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Strategic Planning**: Develop and implement G*OIC’s Strategic Plan with guidance from the Board of Directors, aligning program goals with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
- **Budgeting & Fundraising**: Lead the overall financial management of the organization, including managing budgets, identifying grant opportunities, driving fundraising initiatives and reporting, in collaboration with staff and volunteers.
- **Team Leadership**: Lead the recruitment, hiring, onboarding and oversight of staff, including the Program Administrator, expedition guides, instructors, guest instructors, and onsite coordinators. Manage staff performance and training coordination.
- **Partnership Development**: Cultivate relationships with external partners, including educational institutions and donors, to enhance the program’s reach and impact.
- **Expedition Oversight**: Oversee expedition risk management, insurance, permits, major logistics, pre-expedition paperwork, and facilitate post-expedition debriefs and seasonal staff exit interviews.
- **Volunteer & Task Management**: Collaborate with the President and Vice-President to maintain the engagement and functioning of the Officer program and our community of volunteers.
**Qualifications**:
While we will give preference to applicants who meet some of the following qualifications, we encourage ALL interested applicants to apply.
- **Resourcefulness & Initiative**:Strong capacity to collaborate with G*OIC community members through remote means to acquire information and improve structures and systems of our growing organization.
- **Leadership & Strategic Planning**: At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role, ideally within-but not limited to-outdoor education, youth programs, or non-profit sectors.
- We strive to create diverse leadership teams with different areas of expertise. This required experience may include formal education, on the job training in a relevant field, or other experience that you feel is appropriate.
- **Fundraising & Budget Management**: Demonstrated success in managing program budgets and fundraising.
- **Human Resource Management**: Experience of hiring, training, evaluating and overseeing staff and contractors.
- **Expedition Leadership**: Experience planning and overseeing wilderness expeditions or outdoor programs, with a strong understanding of risk management.
- **Decision-Making & Problem-Solving**: Ability to make high-level decisions that align with long-term goals while managing immediate operational challenges.
- **Communication & Collaboration**: Effective and consistent communication with the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, including staff, the Board of Directors, partners, officers, volunteers, and expedition participants and their families. Familiarity with online tools like Google Workspace and Zoom are essential.
- **Eligibility**: Must be eligible to work in Canada, pass a vulnerable sector background check.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Previous experience with Girls* on Ice Canada or similar non-profit organizations.
- Interest, alignment and personal suitability with Girls* on Ice Canada approach, values, and community.
- Experience working with marginalized youth and/or with affinity programs.
- Engagement in outdoor education and leadership, or science-based youth programs.
- Demonstrating proficiency in outdoor safety, risk management and contingency planning.
