**Community Wellness Coordinator

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a full-time Community Wellness Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager of Community Wellness, the Community Wellness Coordinator will collaboratively facilitate the envisioning, implementation, and evaluation of Shakiwayniwayhk (Embrace): Substance Use Recovery Program. The Substance Use Recovery Program is an expansion of the Opioid Recovery Wrap-Around Support Program. Grounded in Métis culture, history, and person-centred, trauma-informed care, the Community Wellness Coordinator is a crucial touchpoint in supporting and advancing the wellbeing of Métis Albertans on their recovery journey. This position requires a motivated, confident, and driven individual who is passionate about the health and wellbeing of Métis Albertans. The applicant must have excellent interpersonal skills and possess exceptional written and oral communications skills.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the Substance Use Recovery Program in collaboration with the Community Wellness Manager.
- Develop relationships with the Métis community with the intent of informing existing and future community wellness programs and other initiatives.
- Support and advocate for Métis Albertans throughout their recovery journey for up to one year after transitioning from of a treatment centre by providing one-on-one support including, but is not limited to,
- Tracking and completing program intake information,
- Working within a designated budget for program tracking,
- Developing and adjusting individual recovery plans, and
- Providing referrals to external resources such as health supports, housing, financial aid, etc.
- Create, foster, and maintain relationships with internal and external partners, including critical and collaborative partnerships in academic, health care, and other sectors/organizations.
- Assist with the dissemination of program and initiative outputs through reports and other knowledge translation products for the Métis community and other stakeholders.
- Assist community knowledge dissemination and health literacy through province-wide community health events, including the annual MNA Health Forum.
- Create and submit posters, reports, abstracts, and presentations for conferences, events, and other initiatives.
- Provide technical support for, and occasionally facilitate, weekly peer support gatherings.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
**Skills & Competencies**
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.
- Culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and compassionate with an ability to engage with community members in diverse settings.
- Exceptional verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.
- Proven track record of building collaborative partnerships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including community, service providers, academic leaders, and government.
- Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to engage with community members in diverse settings.
- Excellent facilitation skills, including the ability to carry out workshops, community engagements, and public presentations.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic and changing environment, including demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and cope with stress effectively under tight and competing deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills, including the ability to take initiative to complete tasks and projects.
- Ability to provide constructive and positive feedback to others and be able to accept the same.
- Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential and politically sensitive information. Strong political sensitivity.
**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in health, social sciences, or related fields. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- Frontline experience in a client support role is preferred.
- Program development, implementation, and evaluation experience is required.
- Addictions support worker certification/training, or training in trauma-informed care are assets.
- Knowledge and experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma, substance use and addictions, and emotional or mental challenges.
- Experience working in mental health and addictions, in an Indigenous health and/or non-profit setting, or working directly with Métis or Indigenous people are assets.
**Other Requirements**
- Position will be based in office in Edmonton, Alberta.
- Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM
