**SUMMARY**
Patient greeting and confirmation of accuracy of all pertinent prescription information prior to filling, data entry of patient care information into computer system, Third Party adjudication (if necessary), accurate dispensing of prescription medications, maintenance of pharmacy stock through inventory control systems, general OTC enquiries from patients and referral to pharmacist where required and necessary.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
Customer Service
- Greet patient and gather prescription information
- Refer to the pharmacist all inquiries related to medication or disease or other as required by law
- Set realistic customer expectations as to wait times and effectively communicate this to the customer
- Be able to locate and cash-out prescriptions and ancillary items if required, ensuring all legal requirements are met
- Provide accurate information in response to customer inquiries
- Resolve customer issues according to established standards, ensuring appropriate intervention by the pharmacist
- Draw customer attention to literature or information as required (i.e. clinic days, MedsCheck’s)
- Ensure customers requiring counselling are referred to the pharmacist in a timely and appropriate manner
- Maintain and control the cash register in the dispensary in accordance with cash handling policies and procedures when required
- Ability to work flexible shifts if necessary including weekends
- Able to work at all 3 of our locations when needed
Prescription Entry
- Accurately enter and maintain appropriate data within the pharmacy software
- Adjudicate claim to Third Party
- Resolve technical issues by contacting pharmacy software support centre or Third Party help desks as required
- Ensure prescriptions are prioritized correctly and that time expectations are recorded
- Refer patients to the pharmacist for a MedsCheck when appropriate
Prescription Filling
- Select medications for dispensing
- Efficiently count or measure, package and label prescriptions ensuring all relevant information and documentation is presented to the pharmacist
- May be required to mix, reconstitute or compound prescriptions as directed and supervised by the pharmacist
- Be able to perform basic calculations for mixtures, suspensions and other compounded medications
- Gather all pertinent drug information and marketing communications pieces for including with prescription
Administration
- Answer telephone, using good etiquette at all times
- Handle calls and incoming faxes
- Assist pharmacist in coordinating and confirming appointments
- Contact physicians’ offices as needed and maintain all relevant documentation
- Accurately file completed prescriptions in a timely organized manner
- Generate reports as required
- Prepare invoices where required
- Scanning of prescriptions and all necessary documentation for patient profiles.
Inventory Management
- Maintain proper storage of medications within the pharmacy
- Ensure stock bottles are put away regularly throughout the work day
- May be required to perform inventory management under the direction and supervision of the pharmacist
- Perform cycle counts
- Ensure regular replenishment of pharmacy stock and supplies
- Unpack and receive pharmacy orders
- Ensure narcotic inventory is received and recorded in the narcotics register
- Put away received pharmacy inventory in appropriate location, while ensuring stock rotation
- Required to perform appropriate removal and return of expired products and recalls
- Regularly check outbox prescriptions and call customers with orders that have not been picked up within a certain time; properly return prescriptions to stock and reverse billing when necessary
- Follow a stock formulary and order from preferred vendor
Loss Prevention
- Follows guidelines to ensure loss prevention procedures are performed
- Ensures proper security of cash, merchandise and pharmacy stock
General
- Provide support and assistance to the pharmacist(s) as required, with a focus on enhancing the pharmacist/customer relationship
- Provide direction and leadership to other technical staff (Head Technician)
- Present a positive image to the public
- Dress for work as per dress code policy
- Punctuality - ensure that you arrive for your scheduled shift at least 15 minutes prior to its start
- Promote pharmacy services and special programs
- Regularly read or view communication vehicles as provided by Pharmacy Manager
- Comply with all health, safety, security and confidentiality requirements
- Adhere to all legal requirements, including the Privacy Act, Food and Drug Act, Health and Safety Act
- Willingness to learn and open to change
- High level of accuracy and diligence in all activities performed
- Ensure standards of housekeeping and image are maintained
- Perform other duties as required
