We are seeking a **General Manager** to join a new materials purchasing and distribution company based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Reporting to the President of the Material Distribution Co., this position will oversee the purchasing of materials for the various construction operating companies in the group, developing strategic relationships with manufacturers, distribution to the various companies and project locations.
This role will own Supply Chain management, as well as building a new business to support the needs of several existing businesses, with combined material purchases of approximately $40M, annually. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated, experienced entrepreneur looking for a challenge and with the skills and ability to help define the business they will be running and growing. This senior role requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of Supply Chain Management including purchasing, building and maintaining business relationships, building a new business and hiring the team to execute on the business strategy. The individual will collaborate closely with senior leadership to align strategies with overall business growth objectives and contribute to the long-term vision and success of the business.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop and implement strategies that align with the company’s long-term goals and market expansion initiatives.
- Help define the strategies for the business and build the team to deliver on those strategies.
- Oversee the identification and assessment of potential long-term supplier partnerships to establish the company as a preferred distribution channel for key suppliers, managing approximately $40 million in annual material purchases for the group, with plans to expand into reselling opportunities.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and other associated companies to ensure alignment of material type, quality, purchasing and distribution strategy with broader business objectives.
- Serve as a cultural ambassador during the start-up of this new business to ensure the parent company’s core values, and culture are maintained and fostered during integration.
- Use data-driven insights to assess opportunities and forecast performance.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to team members
**General Leadership Attributes**
- Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, and listening.
- Brings sustained energy and a positive outlook to the workplace, particularly in a startup Supply Chain Management context where challenges are frequent.
- Proficient in negotiation and purchasing for a variety of construction-related products, with expertise in developing and maintaining strategic business relationships.
**Qualifications and Requirements**:
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Supply Chain Management, corporate strategy, or business development, with a proven track record.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred.
- Advanced negotiation, purchasing and distribution expertise is an asset.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence decision-making, and manage complex projects through multiple stages.
- Strong leadership and motivational skills to mentor and support the team.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Pay: $116,000.00-$145,000.00 per year
