**Job Summary**

The Assistant Academic Department Manager (AADM) plays a key role in supporting the strategic and operational leadership of the Department of Kinesiology. Reporting to the Academic Department Manager and working closely with the Department Chair, the AADM contributes to the management of academic programming, research administration, and departmental operations. This role supports planning, policy implementation, and alignment with the University’s strategic vision.

The AADM collaborates with academic leadership and central university offices to assess departmental needs, develop proposals, and guide initiatives in curriculum, space, human resources, and student services. The position also supports accreditation and quality assurance processes, facilitates faculty and staff transitions, and may represent the ADM in faculty-level discussions. The AADM ensures smooth day-to-day operations and provides leadership to staff supporting undergraduate and graduate programs, contributing to the overall effectiveness and advancement of the department’s academic mission.

**Key Accountabilities**
- **Financial Management**
Oversees and supports the management of departmental financial resources, including operating budgets, research accounts, graduate scholarship/TA budgets, PDA. Act as delegate for financial approvals and ensure compliance with university policies.
- **Strategic Implementation**
Assists in executing the department’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the University’s broader vision and contributing to long-term planning and the implementation of new initiatives.
- **Operational Oversight**
Supports the ADM in overseeing all infrastructure activities within the department, including staffing, finance, research, and teaching operations. They ensure compliance with collective agreements, contribute to policy development, and manage health and safety, crisis planning, and departmental communications. Additionally, they coordinate departmental reviews, promotional materials, event planning, and operational transitions to maintain continuity and efficiency.
- **Human Resources Management**
Provides comprehensive support in all aspects of departmental human resources, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and staff development. They assist with faculty processes such as career progress, merit, tenure, and promotion, while ensuring compliance with collective agreements and university policies. The role also includes managing onboarding materials, supporting accommodations, and contributing to strategic HR planning aligned with departmental goals.
- **Physical Resource Management**
Supports space planning, asset tracking, and budgeting to ensure optimal use of departmental resources. They also oversee building safety, coordinate repairs, and serve as a backup contact for security and facilities-related matters.
- **Education Administration**
Manage infrastructure supporting academic planning, advising, curriculum development, and accreditation processes for undergraduate and graduate programs. Collaborate with student groups and support pedagogical initiatives.
- **Research Administration**
Supports the administration of research activities by managing grant funding, assisting with industry contracts, and ensuring compliance with proposal procedures. They also address health and safety concerns, support staffing and budgeting inquiries, and help integrate student researchers and volunteers into departmental programs.
