**Summary**:
An opportunity currently exists for the position of Consultation Specialist within the Customer and Corporate Services Department. This role requires an experienced and outgoing individual to implement and coordinate the consultation process required for electric transmission projects for AltaLink and maintain community relations for AltaLink’s operations and maintenance needs. Under the leadership and direction of the Manager, Indigenous Relations & Consultation, the Consultation Specialist is accountable for delivering on public consultation strategies for electric transmission projects with the objective of obtaining input to assist in the siting of these facilities.
**Responsibilities**:
- Coordinate the consultation efforts on complex electric transmission projects.
- Assist in determining consultation strategies and processes best suited to a particular project.
- Design and implement public information sessions, open houses, advisory committee meetings or other such events required to ensure full consultation.
- Consult directly with stakeholders to gather input on project proposals.
- Proactively identify stakeholder engagement opportunities and stakeholder issues and communicate them to the project team.
- Manage a group of consultants conducting public consultation on AltaLink’s behalf.
- Support AltaLink’s Indigenous Relations team with developing community relations and consulting with Indigenous communities, including conducting traditional land use assessments and developing mitigations to impacts on Aboriginal rights.
- Act as AltaLink’s witness or support witnesses as required for consultation issues at Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) hearings.
- Participate in regional multi-stakeholder organizations.
- Manage the consultation budget associated with large projects.
- Mentor and train junior team members.
**Qualifications**
- Degree in Social Sciences or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum 7+ years public engagement experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a closely related field (e.g., energy, capital project development, land use planning, etc.). Preferably in a regulated utility.
- Experience with Indigenous relations and consultation is considered an asset.
- Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability in dealing with the public.
- Able to effectively deal with controversial public/landowner/agency issues.
- Witness support skills or similar background.
- Background with land use and right-of-way issues.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in consultation on linear facilities an asset.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members, customers and stakeholders to promote positive outcomes.
- Must have valid driver’s license and be able to accommodate overnight travel within Alberta.
- Ability to perform fieldwork activities, including walking on undeveloped terrain and lifting up to 20 kg.
- Proven track record of good attendance and job performance.
