Job description
Kidz Kare is a one-stop resource to support parents on their journey in raising healthy, happy and knowledgeable individuals. This position is located at our licensed daycare centre in downtown Toronto.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Understands and complies with provincial, municipal, Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and Kidz Kare’s policies and procedures
- Attend relevant professional development opportunities as deemed necessary
- Plans and implements a consistent curriculum in accordance to Kidz Kare's high standards by selecting age appropriate materials for the age group; sets up both indoor and outdoor activities for the children in accordance to the weekly pre-planned program when necessary
- Completes required documentation of children’s development and interactions
- Understands legal responsibilities regarding abuse, identifies indicators of abuse and is prepared to report signs of child abuse to the Children’s Aid Society
- Seeks opportunities to deepen connections and increase engagement of parents and children in care, providing further opportunities to them to get more evolved with Kidz Kare and all its affiliates
- Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with Kidz Kare’s Mission, Vision, Program Statement and most of all, with our core values
- Adheres to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provides required adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes or is able to manage such changes
- Participation in special events within the centre, community and/or within company from time to time
- Ensures the overall health and safety of children enrolled in the program are the first priority
- Maintains a clean and healthy environment and is able to identify children and staff who are unwell
- Reviews all food items to ensure food allergies/restrictions are consistently being monitored
- Provides feedback to parents and families in regards to child’s overall well-being and progress.
**REQUIREMENTS**:
- Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators and in good standing
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check
- Up-to-date Immunization Record including at least 2 doses of Covid Vaccine
- Must have at least 3 years daycare experience
- Excellent problem solving skills
- A commitment to diversity and equity
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and great communication skills, both written and oral
- Flexibility regarding assigned working hours
- Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort when required: Lifting up to 45 lbs, bending and stooping, sitting crossed legged on the floor, etc., without assistance.
- Must be able to work outdoors (playground) for at least 2 hours daily year-round -- if necessary; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold, etc.
- Excellent organizational and priority-setting (time management) skills
- Has led their past classrooms into success which is defined by the success of its students and peers; can now translate this into teaching their own team.
- Open-minded, teachable, dedicated to excellence, driven, creative and organized
- Able to multi-task and prioritize a variety of tasks while work in a fast pace and dynamic environment
- A capacity to work with a team and be part of a large multi-service organization while still being able to work independently
- Knowledge of behaviour and classroom management techniques
- Working knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?
- Capacity to work with a large team and provide in-house staff training
- Experience in Human Resources Management including the hiring and evaluation of staff
- Ability to monitor teachers to ensure the quality of teaching methods and support of program goals
- Ability to make informed decisions and follow through
- Ability to exercise good judgment
- Ability to handle emergencies and crises
- Familiarity with staff scheduling
- Understanding of High Scope curriculum
**ABOVE & BEYOND**:
- Has been in a leadership role before
- Has additional Post-Secondary Education that pertains to Children and/or has their teaching certificate
- Has ambition to grow within the organization
- Has a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Self manages on-going professional development
- Experience in dealing with food restrictions/allergies, etc.
