Coquitlam, Canada City of Coquitlam Full time

**Staff Lawyer**:
**Regular Full Time**

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the City of Coquitlam is located on the shared, traditional and ancestral lands of the kʷikʷәƛ̓ әm, sq̓ әc̓ iy̓ aɁɬ tәmәxʷ, and other Coast Salish Peoples.

One of BC’s Top Employers, the City of Coquitlam offers meaningful career opportunities to make a difference within the local community. As the sixth largest city in BC, we are home to more than 150,000 residents. Our diverse municipality is a great place to work as it continues to grow through innovative urban design, inspiring arts, culture and recreation programs, and state-of-the-art transportation systems. Our brand is built on managing our resources in a responsible and sustainable manner, while supporting a vibrant, growing regional urban centre. We envision a bright future in Coquitlam that we hope includes you

We are seeking a talented lawyer to permanently join our team of experienced real estate and property development professionals at a workplace that offers work-life balance and hybrid-working options. Reporting to the Senior Staff Lawyer, and working alongside another real estate lawyer and two real estate paralegals, the Staff Lawyer will provide development and real estate legal services to the City’s planning, real estate, engineering and project management professionals.

In the role of Staff Lawyer on our team, you can look forward to handling a broad range of matters with an emphasis on:

- Land development projects, where the City is acting in a regulatory capacity through the rezoning, subdivision and development permit processes or as a property owner for its own land development projects
- Purchase and sale of City lands, including land exchanges and road closures
- Leases, licences and other interests in land and contracts related to City services, utilities, real property and other assets
- Complex air space subdivisions for mixed-use projects
- Drafting and interpreting land development-related bylaws.

This is a rare opportunity to work in your field of expertise away from the often cliché corporate office life. As the successful applicant, you will be well-versed and knowledgeable in real estate transactions, land use planning processes and development-related legal issues, as well as technical knowledge of the LTSA electronic filing system and LTO practices and procedures. Familiarity with general municipal law and local government issues is particularly desirable.
