**About The **Kwikwetlem** **First Nation**
The Kwikwetlem community are proud downriver Halkomelem speaking Coast Salish people who descended from a tradition of Elders who were renowned as spirit and winter dancers, skilled canoe builders, and master sturgeon and salmon fishers. The Kwikwetlem people are guided by the teachings of their Elders to respect, care for, and protect their Nation, culture, and lands, waters, and resources for past, present, and future generations. Their culture and heritage are the legacy of their ancestors and are what defines and unites the Kwikwetlem people.

**About the Opportunity**
KFN’s Indigenous Guardian program is carried out under the mandate of KFN’s Lands and Natural Resources department through the Stewardship & Guardianship team. Indigenous Guardians have an important role to assert our rights and title, and monitor and protect the waters, lands and cultural resources within KFN’s traditional territory. This role is responsible for maintaining a presence throughout the territory while out on the job; monitoring the impacts of resource use; reporting violations to policies, as well as provincial and federal regulations; accurately collecting data; and reporting activities to the Stewardship & Guardianship Manager. Work supports all Lands & Natural Resources programs including lands and resource use planning, fisheries, referrals and cultural heritage protection.
**Main Job Duties**
- Observe and report on active projects within the territory with consideration to environmental and cultural heritage concerns
- Assist with KFN stewardship initiatives
**Working Conditions**
- Field position working on the territory in a variety of work sites in all weather
- Monitoring construction activities
- Occasional survey work in rugged terrain, and in river/lake environments
**Job Requirements**
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Reliable personal vehicle (insured for work use and in good working condition)
**Qualifications**
- Strong communication skills and be able to interact with proponents/contractors in a polite and positive manner
- Dependable, motivated and demonstrates a strong work ethic
- Shows initiative and is a team player
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to the KFN Indigenous Guardian program vision
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to protecting the health of KFN territory and culture
- Ability to work irregular work hours, including some overtime
- Physically able to complete duties
- Comfortable outdoors
**Requisite training will be provided.**
**Job Type**: Casual
**Salary**: $16.00-$30.00 per hour
