**The opportunity**
An exciting opportunity exists in our Utilities department within the Metals division for a Temporary (6-month) Operator located in Fort Saskatchewan. The purpose of this position is to manage the start-up and shutdown, monitor and safely operate circuit equipment, maintain settings and parameters, operate the control system and direct the workflow.
**In this role, you will be accountable for**:
- Maintaining plant operations and preparing equipment for maintenance activities, including issuing permits, lockout/tag-out procedures and equipment shut down/start-up.
- Troubleshooting process, circuit, or equipment upset conditions or issues.
- Operating automated control systems.
- Monitoring and inspecting plant equipment.
- Measuring temperature, flow, and pressure.
- Analyzing and recording instrument readings and equipment malfunction.
- Performing routine equipment maintenance.
- Cleaning and lubricating machinery and components.
- Maintaining daily log of operation, maintenance, and safety activities.
- Completing the Utilities progression system comprising of the powerhouse floor operator, water treatment operator and powerhouse panel operator.
**Skills and attributes for success**:
- A 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate issued by ABSA is required.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.
- 3 to 5 years of related industrial experience is an asset.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts as part of a continuous 24-hour rotation.
- Problem solving and troubleshooting skills: technical and mechanical aptitude.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
