Position Summary
Project Management Trainee
We have an exciting opportunity for an independent self-starter, reporting to the Director of
Capital Planning. The Planning & Redevelopment Department is responsible for managing the project planning, design and construction at all hospital sites, whether small renovations or scale large-scale redevelopments. North York General Hospital is continually upgrading the facility and expanding departments. As part of this, the Project Management Trainee would
take on a lead role in numerous projects to help achieve NYGH's vision of achieving excellence in integrated patient-centered care through learning, innovation and partnerships. NYGH is currently engaged in a variety of projects at scales ranging from Master Planning for new development and major construction to small renovations, equipment installations and infrastructure renewal. The Seasonal Support will have an opportunity to support the in the design and construction of the assigned projects. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Support various capital projects, including design, cost estimates, materials and service procurement, contract administration and site coordination.
- Assist Manager, Planning & Redevelopment with project coordination, which may include consulting with architects, contractors, structural, electrical and mechanical engineers.
- Supports and assist with communication between internal clients (Doctors, Nurses, etc.) and external contractors.
- Assist with updating CAD drawings.
- Assist with Furniture and Equipment Planning
- Assist Manager, Planning & Redevelopment with RFP development for architectural, engineering and construction.
- Assist with Ministry of Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care capital approval processes.
- Research and recommend evidence-based design principles for care environments.
**Qualifications**:
- Ability to support multiple projects with competing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and contribute to the development of design documents from schematic design through contract documents
- Experience with CAD drafting and AutoCAD is an required
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Contract administration experience is considered an asset
- A strong interest in healthcare design
- Bilingualism in French/English an asset
What We Offer
Working at NYGH means working with a dynamic team of fellow healthcare providers, staff, and volunteers in one of Canada’s leading hospitals. This is a Full Time Temporary position for approximately 4-12 months, with 75 hours bi-weekly, 8 hour shifts, days, in Planning & Redevelopment. We offer a highly competitive total compensation package which may include benefits, pension, vacation pay, or pay in lieu of benefits, when applicable.
