Reporting to the Patient Care Manager (PCM), the Clinical Operations Lead will assist in the management of the day-to-day operations of the hospital units. This position will play a leadership role in ensuring the provision of quality patient care through monitoring and adjusting daily clinical operations and administrative activities to ensure efficient and effective department operation. As a member of the management team, the Clinical Operations Lead will provide direct staff supervision and support human resource planning, including conducting performance appraisals, monitoring competency assessment processes for staff and supporting the ongoing education, mentorship and development of staff members on the unit. Responsibilities will include assisting the Patient Care Manager in all budget and finance related activities to ensure and effective operations and ensuring unit performance metrics are met. The Clinical Operations Lead will facilitate the provision of high standards of patient care through the promotion of evidence-based practice and ongoing continuous improvement processes in collaboration with Practice and the Patient Care Manager.

The Clinical Operations Lead will be responsible for project & change management initiatives that are in line with departmental and organizational strategic plans, managing the department in the absence of the Patient Care Manager, as well as performing other duties and responsibilities consistent with the job classification as assigned or requested.
**MAJOR RESPONISBILITES**:

- As delegated by the Patient Care Manager:

- Interviewing and Selection of staff;
- Completing Staff Performance Appraisals;
- Providing performance feedback, coaching and mentoring of staff in a positive and supportive manner;
- Administration of Attendance Management program;
- Fostering effective employee and labour relations through acquired knowledge of the Hospital policies and processes, as well as Collective Agreements and governing Employment laws/codes;
- Demonstrating understanding of, and compliance with, responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations and the Hospital’s Health and Safety policies, protocols procedures and guidelines;
- Co-ordinating and collaborating with Practice and Patient Care Manager to orient new hires;
- Monitoring unit staffing and patient assignments in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager.
- Championing best practices and plays a leadership role in quality and process improvement initiatives in support of excellent patient care;
- Facilitating patient flow and bed management processes, attending daily bed meetings as delegated;
- Providing support to staff for issues related to patient care and families;
- Investigating and managing patient and family complaints in a timely manner;
- Promoting continuous quality improvement to achieve established clinical benchmarks and outcomes;
- Facilitating and participating in weekly Improvement Huddles;
- Promoting an environment that respects confidentiality, privacy of patients, and health information in a professional manner as defined by various regulatory bodies and Hospital’s policies;
- Performing chart audits as requested;
- Monitoring infection control practices in the department and intervenes as appropriate;
- Assessing and managing clinical risk situations (Safety First), escalating as appropriate;
- Completing monthly workplace safety inspections;
- Providing support to the PCM in the area of budget/resource allocation;
- Planning and participation in program staff meetings;
- Attend and contribute to Multidisciplinary Rounds.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Regulated Health Professional with registration in good standing with a recognized professional college;
- Master’s degree an asset;
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a healthcare setting, with demonstrated clinical expertise in the delivery of patient care required;
- Experience with orthopaedic and amputee patient population required;
- Demonstrated leadership experience and skills. Experience managing staff preferred required;
- Experience implementing strategies that effectively manage change required;
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and related best practice guidelines;
- Demonstrated ability to engage staff in continuous clinical skill improvement;
- Flexible, organized and self-directed;
- Excellent decision making, critical thinking and problem solving skills;
- Effective listening and conflict resolution skills;
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral;
- Demonstrated commitment to patient and family centered principles and care;
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and learning;
- Strong computer skills;
- Good attendance and performance record.
