We are seeking a skilled and experienced Brewer to join our team. The Brewer will be responsible for brewing, fermenting, and packaging high-quality craft beer. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical knowledge, and a passion for the craft beer industry. THERE IS NO DRINKING ON THE JOB. You are expected to be able to sample the beers when required, but all day drinking is not allowed. You are expected to be able to complete tasks sober. Job Responsibilities Brewers are responsible for a wide range of tasks, including: - **Brewing Process Management**: Overseeing the entire brewing process, including milling, wort production, fermentation, and filtration. This includes ensuring that recipes are followed accurately and that quality standards are maintained throughout the brewing process. - **Cellar Management**: Managing yeast pitching, tracking fermentation, and performing dry-hopping. Brewers must also handle basic cellar work such as transfers, filtering, and carbonating beer. - **Quality Control**: Conducting regular quality assessments of the beer, including taste testing and scientific analysis, to ensure the final product meets established standards. - **Equipment Maintenance**: Maintaining and cleaning brewing equipment, including tanks and filtration systems. Brewers are also responsible for troubleshooting and performing repairs as necessary. - **Product Development**: Collaborating with management and ownership to develop new beer recipes and test batches for potential release. This involves sourcing high-quality raw materials and ensuring proper inventory management. - **Record Keeping**: Keeping detailed production records to track processes, ingredient usage, and quality control metrics. This documentation is crucial for improving brewing practices and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. We have some internal systems that you will receive training for once you are hired. - **Safety and Hygiene**: Upholding strict safety and hygiene standards within the brewery. This includes proper chemical handling and maintaining a clean brewing environment. - **Customer Interaction**: Representing the brewery at events, tastings, and trade shows, which may involve direct interaction with customers and promoting the brewery's products. - **Education**: A degree in a relevant field such as chemistry, microbiology, food science, or brewing technology is often preferred. We will accept equivalent experience in lieu of formal education. - **Experience**: A minimum 2 years of professional brewing experience is required. Experience in recipe development and brewery operations is a plus. - **Physical Ability**: Brewers must be physically capable of performing demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy materials up to 100 lbs, standing for long periods, and working in potentially confined or temperature-variable spaces. - **Technical Skills**: Proficiency in using brewing management software and basic laboratory techniques for quality control, such as pH measurement and cell counts, is required. - **Teamwork and Communication**: Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you will work as part of a small team and must communicate effectively with colleagues and customers. Key Skills Required: - **Attention to Detail**: Precision in following recipes and maintaining quality standards is crucial. - **Problem-Solving**: The ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and optimize brewing processes is important for maintaining efficiency. - **Creativity**: A passion for experimenting with flavors and developing unique beers is highly valued. We would like to have a "Brewers Choice" tap at all times - **Organizational Skills**: Effective management of production schedules, inventory, and record-keeping is necessary for smooth brewery operations. - **Knowledge** of food safety practices in a brewery setting. - **Ability** to operate a forklift for moving materials. - **Mechanical knowledge **for troubleshooting equipment issues. - **Experience **in fabricating or modifying brewing equipment is a plus - **Familiarity** with the food industry regulations and standards. - **Proficiency** in basic math calculations for ingredient measurements. - **Understanding **of food processing techniques in brewing. We currently use and would like to expand the use of such ingredients as coffee, chocolate, and fruit in our beers - **Capability** to package beer efficiently and effectively.
