Custodian I

GENERAL STATEMENT
With supervision from the Supervisor Custodial Services and the Custodian III, provides a wide range of cleaning and custodial duties. Performs specific routine custodian tasks as directed.

TYPICAL DUTIES
- Cleans by dusting, mopping, washing, vacuuming, sweeping, emptying waste/recycle containers, cleaning and scrubbing all surfaces of furniture, furnishings, floors, windows, walls, ceilings, chalkboards & whiteboards;
- Regularly checks and cleans, unplugs and restocks washrooms;
- Regularly checks and cleans food service areas and child care facilities;
- Removes and disposes of waste and recycling from and adjacent to buildings;
- Moves, cleans and tidies furniture;
- Sets up for special functions as required;
- Cleans light fixtures and replaces bulbs;
- Stays current on College’s Custodial procedures and standing orders;
- Helps College employees, public and students with general questions regarding the college, and provides a variety of basic assistance as required.
- Locks and unlocks doors, windows, gates etc. as directed;
- As directed assists with urgent and emergency situations;
- Reports to a supervisor any deficiencies, signs of failure or unsafe conditions in or near buildings;
- Performs snow removal manually, spreads ice melter and sand as required;
- Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity.

QUALIFICATIONS

Grade 10, and six months related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Some knowledge of machines and equipment associated with custodial service is required. Must have good communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to deal effectively with both College staff and the public.

Pay: $25.79-$27.47 per hour
