**JOB SUMMARY**
The Snow and Ice Dispatch coordinates and oversees snow and ice operations during and leading up to snow and anti-icing events. This role is responsible for efficiently dispatching crews and equipment to various locations, ensuring prompt response and effective deployment to manage winter weather conditions and meet contract requirements.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
This role includes duties that are paid at two different rates, Base Wage (Single Time) and Event Wage (Double Time). Base wage responsibilities typically take place during normal business hours (8am-4:30pm). Event Wage responsibilities take place during snow and antiicing events. If there is a discrepancy between Event or Base Wages, the Base Wage will prevail.
**Base Wage Responsibilities**:
- Assist the Human Resources and Safety Department with recruiting, training and safety initiatives as directed by snow and ice manager
- Complete and assist snow and ice crews’ orientation and training
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and local regulations related to snow and ice management
**Event Wage Responsibilities**:
- Dispatch crews to assigned routes/locations based on priority, weather conditions, and client requirements as directed by snow and ice manager.
- Monitor weather forecasts and conditions to anticipate potential snow and ice accumulation and determine appropriate response measures.
- Use Yeti software to track and maintain accurate records of crew assignments, work hours, equipment usage, and material consumption.
- Communicate with clients and subcontractors to gather relevant information and address service requests.
- Prioritize service calls and emergencies to ensure timely response and resolution of snow and ice-related issues.
- Monitor crew activities and provide guidance and support as needed to ensure adherence to safety protocols and operational standards.
- Utilize Yeti software and Excel to efficiently manage work, track crew locations, and update service status.
- Maintain effective communication with field personnel and management team to relay pertinent information and ensure smooth operations.
- Collaborate with team to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of snow and ice management operations.
- Identify and escalate any operational issues, equipment malfunctions, or personnel concerns to the appropriate stakeholders.
**EDUCATION**
- Completion of Secondary School
- Post-secondary education in industry related topics an asset
- Certified Snow Professional (CSP) designation an asset
**EXPERIENCE**
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in an administrative role
- Supervisory experience (2 years) an asset
- Experience driving a snow plow or deicing truck an asset
- Experience operating skid steer loader (bobcat) an asset
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**
- Strong computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong knowledge of snow and ice management operations and equipment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely, some public speaking is required
- Proficient in using dispatch software or systems; familiarity with GPS tracking systems is advantageous.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and make prompt decisions.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and data integrity.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed during emergency situations.
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to deal with conflict resolution and negotiation
- Strong knowledge of navigating the Lower Mainland an asset
- Flexible availability, including the ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**
This position requires time sitting using a computer while also being able to stand/walk for longer stretches of time. Bending, twisting, and lifting in excess of 50lbs is required on occasion. Individuals should be in average physical condition to be able to complete the requirements of the position.
**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
This position requires the individual to work in a mostly indoor setting with 80% of work occurring inside (office) and 20% of time spent outdoors on site, or training. The indoor setting is a normal office environment while the outdoor setting may require work in extreme heat, cold, rain and wind. Snow events are executed from the office.
**COMPENSATION INFORMATION**
- Starting base wage of $30/hour (Base), $60/hour (Event)
- Vacation pay paid out on each cheque
- 5 sick days available after 90 days of service
- Extended Health Benefits (Health, Dental, Vision) at 90 Days if consistent full-time hours met
- RRSP Enrollment at 365 Days (Matching level: Hourly)
