Summary:
The Camps and Events Supervisor is a full-time position responsible for overseeing and actively participating in the daily operations of summer and after-school camps, events and cultural activities offered by the Town of Cornwall. This position combines supervisory responsibilities with hands-on involvement to ensure that events are run efficiently, safely, and provide high-quality experience for participants. The supervisor is also in charge of supervising staff, scheduling, coordinating activities, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and promoting recreational activities within the Town. The supervisor works closely with staff, participants, parents, and community partners to provide a positive and inclusive recreation experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily planning and operations of various recreational camps, including seasonal camps, after school camps and community events.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise a wide range of municipal events, including sports leagues, festivals, recreational activities, holiday and special events.
- Develop event schedules, coordinate logistics, secure permits, and ensure all event requirements are met (e.g., security, vendors, entertainment).
- Responsible for the management of accurate records of camp information, inspections and incident reports.
- Manage camp and event budgets, ensuring all expenses are tracked and events are delivered within budgetary constraints.
- Ensure that camp and events are marketed and promoted effectively through social media, local media, and other communication channels.
- Responsible for the setup and breakdown of activities.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise and schedule staff.
- Provide regular training on safety protocols, risk management, customer service, and program delivery.
- Respond to inquiries, concerns, and feedback from program participants and their families.
- Development of and compliance with camp policies and procedures, department goals and objectives and the PEI Early Learning and Childcare Act & Regulations.
- Ensure staff are trained in emergency response, first aid, and child protection protocols.
- Respond to incidents or emergencies and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to mitigate risks.
- Ensuring camps, and programs are inclusive, comprehensive, age appropriate and contribute to the well being and development of participants.
- Work with community groups and organizations to build partnerships.
- Perform other such related duties, responsibilities and functions as may be assigned.
**Knowledge, Abilities and Skills**:
- Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and event management software.
- Strong organizational skills are required.
- High degree of interpersonal communication and group facilitation skills required.
- Interest and ability in the development of inclusive programming for all age levels.
- Proven team player and flexibility to work outside regular hours as required.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public.
- Demonstrated ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to compile and maintain accurate records and reports.
**Education and Experience**:
- Post-Secondary Program in Sport & Leisure Management, Event & Recreation Management, or related field is preferred.
- Experience in the development and implementation of camps and events.
- Experience working with diverse community groups and volunteers required.
- Standard First Aid/CPR or ability to obtain immediately required.
- Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and internal and external contacts required.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to obtain Class 4 within the first six months required.
- Must have access to and use of a reliable vehicle (mileage will be compensated).
- Must be able to obtain a School-Age Childcare Provider Certification under the PEI Early Learning Certification Program within six months.
- High 5 Quality Program Certification an asset.
**Work Environment**:
- Work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
- Fill in for staff during turn over or unanticipated leaves of absence.
- Back up for Manager when required.
- This role may require lifting or moving equipment, setting up for events, and being on-site during events.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector required upon hire.
