Reporting to the Production Manager, the Theatre Buyer & Shop Assistant works as an integral member in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design (FAAD). The incumbent works closely with Theatre Sheridan’s Head of Props, Wardrobe, Scenic Carpentry, and Scenic Paint, in preparation for all activities to be performed during the academic year.
The incumbent plans and implements a variety of tasks and workflows related to sourcing course materials, studio equipment and components, and production-specific needs. As needed/available, the incumbent is also responsible for providing additional in-room support and hands-on demonstrations to all students working in the Props studio, Wardrobe atelier, Carpentry shop, or Paint shop.
**What You’ll Be Doing**
- Coordinating with all Theatre Sheridan department heads (Props and Wardrobe, primarily) to determine requirements for Theatre Sheridan productions;
- Working within budgets in planning for maintenance, repair and ordering of inventory of all department needs;
- Maintaining updated sourcing documentation throughout rehearsal and performance process;
- Supporting required upgrades to facilities and equipment as determined by each department head;
- Supporting maintenance plan and regular cleaning of all tools and equipment to ensure proper working order, to meet safety standards, and to align with environmentally sustainable practices;
- Collaborating with instructors to procure materials, tools, and other requirements for in-class instruction;
- Making recommendations and assisting in equipment purchases in coordination with Sheridan Facilities, Capital Planning, IT, and OHS Departments;
- Tracking and supporting management of props and wardrobe inventory; maintaining updated inventory of all props and wardrobe in storage;
- Supporting classroom work periods for Technical Production for the Performing Arts Industry program as needed;
- Facilitating opportunities for exploring emerging industry skills and new materials through in-room demonstrations;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

- Minimum 5 years of experience working within a Props and/or Wardrobe Department and minimum of 2 years of experience as a Buyer for Theatre, Film, or Television;
- 2-year Diploma or equivalent in Theatre Production is an asset;
- Strong understanding of the theatre production workflow is a strong asset;
- Experience working with educational institutions is an asset.
