**Manager, Student Advising and Support Services**:
**Primary Purpose**: To provide strategic leadership and oversight of the undergraduate student advising and support services team and the process related to student support services (e.g, access and equity services, student health and counselling), student recruitment and the development of other programs/policies that support student learning. The position focuses on the management and oversight of the development and evaluation of academic, indigenous, and international student advising and support services, and engagement with student leadership and student organizations. The position is responsible for the organization of the work provided by the advising team and liaising with the nursing education programs, provincially and nationally, to build successful undergraduate student supports.
**Nature of Work**: The College of Nursing is the largest non-departmentalized college at the University of Saskatchewan and among the most distributed across the province. This position is based at one of the College of Nursing campuses and reports to the Associate Dean, Academic. The manager of student advising, and support services establishes and maintains professional and networking relationships with USask central student supports, the Gwenna Moss Center that support the undergraduate education program, and the student advising and support services team through collaboration and problem-solving.
This role is a complex position requiring attention to a provincial focus for student advising and support services, which requires strong technical and relational skills and the ability to manage a demanding workload with competing priorities. Attention to detail is critical, with the ability to plan proactively, while also managing the day-to-day priorities. Travel within the province is an expectation.
**Typical Accountabilities**:
Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Academic:
- Implements short and long-term strategies that address the strategic initiatives for provincial management of student supports and services to address the learning needs of the students,
- Establishes mutually beneficial partnerships with student support services across USask colleges and school, and our collaborating regional community college partners and agencies, and faculty at the University of Saskatchewan to develop opportunities for appropriate community and institution-based student support services,
- Represents the college at provincial level nursing education meetings to contribute to discussions surrounding the undergraduate nursing education program,
- Regularly reviews and develops standard work documents to support and guide the work for undergraduate student support services and required consultation with faculty,
- Implements changes to address current and future challenges while enhancing and expanding service collaboration opportunities for students,
- Manages the recruitment and retention, and professional development, of an academic and support services focus on Indigenous and International student advising (e.g., orientation and professional development),
- Oversees and coordinates the workload of student advisors and other student support staff across the province and provides oversight to maintain client focused and culturally appropriate academic advising, health and wellness initiatives, and support for undergraduate students and prospective nursing students,
- Responsible for leading all aspects of planning, coordinating, managing, tracking and evaluating student advising and support services organized for the College of Nursing’s undergraduate nursing education program,
- Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates student support activities, including tutoring arrangements, study circles, and recruitment initiatives and processes,
- Leads the advising team in the development, interpretation, maintenance, and communication of program requirements; academic regulations; graduation standards; academic policies; and degree requirements within the college,
- Responsible for leading all aspects of planning, coordinating, delegating, managing, tracking and evaluating student advising and student organized activities within the College of Nursing’s undergraduate nursing education program; delivered by the student advising and support team including student progression, clinical contracts and safety incident reporting and evaluation statistics.
- Actively participates in and provides expertise and knowledge as a member of the Undergraduate Education Committee, Patient Safety Committee, and other committees as required.
- Develops and maintains targets and metrics to monitor the effectiveness of the student advising and support services activities within the college.
- Requires the ability to effectively manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Is a resource for implementation of university and college policies and procedures.
