The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Children’s Options Services and Community Engagement, the incumbent
will act as a LGBTQI+ Community Facilitator for newcomers to Canada, who identify as LGBTQI+. The
incumbent will conduct outreach, provide community-based workshops, develop peer support
networks, as well as train and support peer leaders working in the LGBTQI+ newcomer

**Responsibilities**:
**Direct Service**
- Develop and facilitate curriculum and discussion topics for educational workshops and peer

support groups for LGBTQI+ newcomers.
- Participate in community outreach and program development.
- Provide information and referral to community members and participants involved.
- Develop educational materials and/or provide information regarding educational materials.
- Ensure that each activity is evaluated.
- Assist with translation of workshop materials as required.
- Ensure the regular and timely recording of data as required by the funder(s) and as part of FST

policy.

**Peer Leader Development**:

- Support with the recruitment of peer leaders and workshop participants for the project.
- Facilitate training sessions for peer leaders.
- Provide mentorship, support, and information to peer leaders.

**Continuous Quality Improvement**
- Participate in organization, program and/or funder specified evaluations, outcome measures,

client satisfaction surveys, collection of indicators specified by funder(s) and so on.
- Identify redundancies and suggests ways to streamline systems within the Community

Engagement team and/or the organization.
- Participate in team planning initiatives that are aligned with organizational strategic and

operational priorities.
- Participates in strategic planning processes.

**External Relationships**
- Represent and promote the interests of clients, the Community Engagement programs and FST

on external committees and networks when required.***
- Develop and deliver presentations and trainings to other professionals at FST and to external

groups as required.***

**Qualifications**:

- Degree in relevant field of study or equivalent combination of education and experience over a

minimum five
- year period. Foreign credentials and relevant experience will be considered
- Excellent knowledge of and lived experience in project are of focus - Newcomer and LGBTQI+
- Ability to communicate orally and in written form in the English language
- Ability to communicate orally and in written form in subsequent language will be considered an
- asset.- Well-developed workshop, facilitation, and training skills.
- Knowledge of the settlement process and related issues.
- Knowledge of dynamics of abuse to LGBTQI+ community.
- Knowledge of issues pertaining to newcomers of all ages.
- Excellent working knowledge of community resources and supports
- Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity, inclusion and cultural competency
- Demonstrated experience doing community development work
- Experience working with a computer database system and good computer skills
- Experience supervising students and volunteers
