**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Coordinator, Administrative Services, the Database Administrator is responsible for creating new and modifying existing databases to track data, provide statistical analysis, and develop complex reports to MSHU leadership to assist in program decision support. The position provides training, monitoring and ongoing support to frontline staff on MHSU databases and other systems such as, Cerner Person Management (PM) and Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI). The Database Administrator works closely with clinical operations and leaders providing consultation and advice on outcome measures and benefits realization. Participates in Island Health leadership meetings and receives access to confidential knowledge as it relates to program development and operational changes. The Database Administrator also provides a variety of documentation such as written correspondence, and complex statistical reports and charts.

- Ability to type 55 wpm
- Thorough knowledge of Business English, general office procedures and equipment.
- Ability to use advanced database, word processing, spreadsheet and graphics software.
- Ability to set-up complex correspondence, reports, charts/graphs, etc.
- Ability to evaluate projects and to plan, monitor and implement various work projects and assignments without detailed supervision.
- Ability to provide demonstrations and train groups and individuals on database and other systems
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to organize time and resources under deadlines.
- Initiative, judgment, organizational skills and positive team attitude.
- Ability to deal with others with problems or issues.
- Ability to commute between offices to provide assistance.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
