**About Landmark East School**
Landmark East is an independent co-ed day and boarding school for students with learning differences located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, a small university town nestled in the Annapolis Valley. The student base is diverse with learners who have been diagnosed with a learning difference such as Attention Deficit Disorder, Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorder, etc. that can make learning challenging in a traditional school setting. Landmark East School is committed to student-centred learning, small class sizes, daily physical activity, and diverse pedagogy. A team of over forty dedicated professionals specializing in various roles drives the school’s success. Landmark East School is a registered charity and actively fundraises to provide student bursaries.
**Responsibilities** **Role / Position Scope**:
- Duties related to the financial management of Landmark East School
- Reports to the Head of School
**General Responsibilities**:
- Submit payroll information
- Pay all accounts/invoices when due
- Prepare budget in conjunction with the Head of School
- Monitor expenditures as invoices/statements received and provide information and advice to the Head of School on a regular basis with regard to the effect of these expenditures on the budget and suggestions for controls
- Provide the Head of School and Finance Committee with monthly financial statements
- Meet with Head of School to review monthly financial statements (or more frequently if deemed necessary) and review/advise as to budget conditions (variances, projections)
- Attend monthly meetings of the Finance Committee to review and provide feedback as to budget control based upon monthly financial statements
- Deliver the Finance Report during the monthly Association Board meeting
- Prepare and provide financial information (budget, salary, costs/revenues per student, etc.) to Head of School, Finance Committee Chair, Board of Directors, etc. as requested
- Prepare and provide year end financial statements and other relevant financial information to external accountants to assist in their preparation of the Review Engagement Report and Annual Information Return for both the Association and Foundation Boards of Landmark East School
- Develop and adjust accounting procedures to assist with monitoring/tracking grant/donation revenues and expenditures accurately for both the Association and Foundation Boards of Landmark East School
- In the role as the Pension Plan Administrator, prepare monthly pension contribution summaries and remittances, as well as the annual pension return
- In the role as the Plan Administrator for Health Benefits, prepare benefit contributions summaries and remittances as required
- Prepare and send tuition statement reminders two weeks prior to the payment date in December, reminder in January that the policy states students cannot return after the March break if their account is not in good standing
- Work with parents regarding matters related to payment of tuition fees for families on a monthly payment plan and/or when families are not meeting the timeline of payment
- Serve as a non-voting member of the Foundation’s Bursary Committee
- Prepare and send notification to parents regarding the amount of student bursary awarded, as applicable as well as expectations around their participation in fundraising activities
- Follow-up with parents who have received a student bursary from the Foundation regarding upcoming fundraising events and expectations around participation
- Maintain and update the student bursary recipient list
- In collaboration with the Head of School, determine transportation rates
- Receipt all donations received for both the Association and Foundation in a timely fashion - no later than one month after receiving the donation
- In consultation with the Head of School, help prepare employment contracts
- Perform any other duties related to financial management of the school that may be assigned by the Head of School
**Qualifications**
- Proven experience in sales, business development, or a related field.
- A degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
