The Faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students). The National Centre for Audiology (NCA) is recognized nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence and leadership in Audiology and Hearing Science research. The NCA provides an environment in which researchers from many disciplines work cooperatively to expand knowledge of hearing function and problems, address the needs of people with hearing impairment, and develop behavioral and technological methods to assist persons with hearing loss. Successes include research productivity and leadership, and ongoing collaboration with hearing health care providers and industries. **Responsibilities**: Based at the National Centre for Audiology (NCA), the Research Assistant (Communicative Disorders Assistant) provides hearing testing, hearing aid fitting support, and support for research data collection and dissemination. Under the supervision of an NCA faculty member, the role will assist with protocol development, data and database management, and equipment setup and maintenance. The Research Assistant (Communicative Disorders Assistant) will also support key research processes including data analysis and manuscript preparation, and will support both the audiological and research-based needs of projects. **Qualifications**: - Education: - 3-year bachelor's degree with emphasis on communication disorders, linguistics, human anatomy and physiology, social sciences, or human services and a diploma from a Communicative Disorders Assistant program - Experience: - 2 years of post-graduation work experience as a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) in an Audiology context, in a clinically focused role - 2 years of work experience as a Research Assistant, in an Audiology context, supporting the management of research projects and related administrative activities - Experience in Audiometry would be an asset - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients, family members or clients, legal guardians, substitute decision makers, Audiologists, daycare teachers, NCA administrative staff and other professionals - Strong administrative skills to handle enquiries and to resolve issues in a professional and timely manner - Ability to multi-task and to maintain an organized and effective personal work environment - Working knowledge of OWL (or similar) preferred and intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g. data management and basic analyses) - Knowledge of general office procedures including strategies for records management - Excellent knowledge of Audiology regulatory body legislation, guidelines and policies as it pertains to the use of supportive personnel - Written and verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience - Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in professional, respectful and diplomatic manner - Creative problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment, especially regarding confidentiality and guidelines in conducting research - Competency to maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive information with discretion - Ability to adapt readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands - Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy **Union Statement**: **Western Values Diversity**: **Please Note**: Effective September 7, 2021, all employees and visitors to campus are required to comply with Western's COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
