**About ABCMI**
The Association of British Columbia Marine Industries (ABCMI) is an incorporated not-for-profit society that represents a wide variety of companies in BC’s industrial marine sector - a sector that comprises approximately 1100 companies, directly employs 22,700 workers, while sustaining 34,200 jobs and generating $7.2 billion in total output. This includes shipbuilding and ship repair, marine infrastructure and industrial marine services, marine professional services, marine products, small craft marine construction and repair, and ocean science and technology. The association’s core activities include workforce development; skills development; facilitating and enabling innovation and new technologies in the marine space; identifying and enabling business opportunities; business development; supplier development and supply chain training; supporting international business development and increasing export of products and services; and sectoral advocacy.
**Working Environment**
ABCMI is a team of 2 people plus some part-time contracted support. We work closely together to support and represent the industrial marine sector in BC. We work a hybrid of remote work and several in-office days a week. We have a small office with three workstations and a boardroom located in beautiful Sidney, BC.
**About the Opportunity**
**Major Accountabilities**
As a Program Manager managing a grant program in the Marine Sector, your responsibilities will include:
Planning and Execution: You will be responsible, working with a contracted Program Deployment Partner, to plan, develop, socialize, and deploy the Grant Program. In carrying out your responsibilities you will also interact with sub-contracted audit, accounting, book-keeping, and legal services.
Budget Management: You will manage the budget for the grant program, ensuring that expenditures are within the approved budget and that funds are allocated appropriately. You will monitor for appropriate use of Program funds based on expected Program outcomes and take reasonable steps to recover funds where determined appropriate. You will review and verify all Program recipient expense reports to validate plans and outcomes against eligible
expense criteria provided by the funding agency.
Reporting: You will be responsible for preparing and submitting regular reports on the progress of the grant program to the relevant stakeholders, including the funding agency.
Compliance: You will ensure that all grant activities are in compliance with program requirements as set out by the funding agency.
Communication: You will work with the Program Deployment Partner in developing and executing a communications strategy to promote the Program to industry stakeholders through broad and targeted communications approaches. You will provide dedicated and timely communications to all prospective applicants to generate broad interest and an inclusive Program response. You will utilize resources such as an industry network, and organizational website linked to a dedicated Grant web page to communicate and promote the Program.
Overall, as a Project Manager in the Marine Sector for managing a grant program, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient implementation of the grant program and achieving its objectives. You will work closely with stakeholders to build strong partnerships, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with all prescribed program requirements.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- Post-secondary degree in science, business administration, accounting, law or related discipline OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in project management or in a closely related position, demonstrating progressive responsibility. Marine sector experience preferred.
- Strong project management skills, including experience in developing and implementing project plans, managing budgets, and tracking progress.
- Ability to build and maintain Gannt Charts for planning and Program milestone progress tracking.
- Ability to build and maintain Excel databases to track Program activities, as applicable.
- Experience of directing and managing multiple activities while maintaining attention to detail and make appropriate decisions regarding the progress of projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Experience of fostering effective working relationships with peers, clients, funding providers, external officials and the public.
- Fluency in English, with strong writing and presentation skills.
