- Security Coordinator**Position Summary**
- Do you have experience in providing an active role in security response? Do you have a desire to be part of a team who values agility, discovery, and connection? Red Deer Polytechnic is currently recruiting for a permanent full-time Security Coordinator to join our growing team.
- As the Security Coordinator you will ensure the safety, security, and provision of services that promote and enhance a safe and secure environment for students, staff/faculty, visitors, and contractors. The effective operation of the Security Services function has a direct influence on Red Deer Polytechnic’s Strategic Plan’s themes by impacting the quality of the learning, research and working environment, as well as the perception of RDP by the public as a quality educational institution.- The Security Coordinator is a security specialist that oversees the security systems and controls at RDP. This position also is involved in emergency management and business continuity. An error in judgement or actions by the Security Services Manager could result in considerable legal and/or civil ramifications and liabilities and result in the loss of life or embarrassment to the Polytechnic.**Position Responsibilities**
- Responsibiltiies include, but not limited to:
- Undertakes an active role in scene management during emergencies by directing the activities of others and making operational decisions to manage events occurring on and affecting RDP
- Collaborates and enforces interim measures and sanctions for students, employees and non-RDP community members
- Supports RDP special events through the provision of security and advisory services by the Security Services function
- Provides support for the management of threats and liaises with police, fire, ambulance services, and other responding agencies as appropriate
- Responsible for the access control system including access card issuance, reviewing, auditing, and terminating access as necessary
- Develops and maintains an incident notification matrix for the purposes of identifying and alerting RDP stakeholders to various incidents that occur
- Identifies emerging trends in the post-secondary and security fields and remains abreast of new developing technologies and security processes that could be relevant to enhancing the RDP security program
- Remains on-call to respond to emergencies and provide incident response
**Required Qualifications**
- Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of university in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent in Security Management, Law Enforcement, Business Administration, Social Science, etc.
- Hold an individual security service license and an investigator license issued pursuant to the _Security Services and Investigator Act_ of Alberta or be able to obtain within 2 months of hire
- Experience with emergency management systems in Alberta and/or other jurisdictions and an understanding of the Incident Command System (or similar)
- Experience in reviewing and interpreting legislation as it applies to security, emergency management and business continuity
- Ability to be on call and respond to emergencies and incidents
- Ability to operate in high stress and sensitive situations
- Exceptional de-escalation, negotiation, and crisis management skills
- Exceptional attention to detail of surroundings with ability to focus on tasks
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion and maintain confidentiality
- Physically able to undertake the requirements of the role
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Physical Security Professional (PSP) is an asset
- Experience working in a post secondary institution an asset
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills that are applied in an appropriate manner
- Ability to make recommendations and decisions that are complex and can relate directly or indirectly to serious situations which include the potential for loss of life
- Understanding of good business practices and project management practices in service delivery (including change management)
- Ability to analyze large volumes of information and distill the information for presentation to various stakeholders
