About the Program

The Flight Jr. NBA Skills Academy is a developmental basketball program designed for athletes in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Rooted in the Jr. NBA curriculum, the academy emphasizes fundamental movement skills, basketball-specific development, teamwork, and confidence building. Sessions are structured to align with the long-term athlete development (LTAD) model, ensuring athletes receive age-appropriate training in a supportive and positive environment.

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver engaging basketball sessions for K-8 athletes in alignment with Jr. NBA guidelines
- Supervise, mentor, and provide direction to 2-4 assistant coaches each week
- Ensure sessions reflect the developmental stages of young athletes
- Be responsible for program set-up and clean-up each Saturday
- Foster an inclusive, safe, and positive learning environment
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and program leadership

**Qualifications**:

- Demonstrated experience working with youth athletes ages 5-13 in a coaching or teaching capacity
- Strong knowledge of athlete development and the LTAD framework
- Proven leadership ability with experience managing assistant staff or volunteers
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to the program schedule (Sept-Dec, Saturdays only)

Weekly Session Schedule (Saturdays, Sept 13 - Dec 13, 2025)
- Grades 1-2: 2:30 - 3:30 PM
- Grades 3-4: 3:45 - 4:45 PM
- Grades 5-6: 5:00 - 6:30 PM
- Grades 7-8: 7:00 - 8:30 PM
- (Full coaching shift runs from 2:00 - 9:30 PM, including setup and cleanup duties)_

Compensation
- Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience
- Opportunities for continued involvement within Flight Basketball Academy programs
