Who We Are
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Global Tax Manager, the Corporate Tax Planning Manager will be responsible for the maintenance of the BGIS corporate group’s global tax provisions (with a focus on Canada and the US), preparation of quarterly tax forecasts, and assist in the implementation of the global transfer pricing policy. This includes the preparation of current and deferred tax working papers, posting of journal entries, reconciliation of tax accounts, and request for payments for tax instalment payments. The Corporate Tax Planning Manager will also be involved in special projects as required.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Tax Provisions & Planning
- Assist in the development and implementation of a global tax provisions schedule for reporting of current and deferred taxes on a quarterly basis.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual journal entries for the global tax provisions.
- Reconciles tax accounts to GL.
- Lead the preparation of tax projections and tax instalments required for the US and Canadian Group of companies.
- Assist in the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the global transfer pricing policy.
- Prepares and coordinates payment requests and income tax remittances in a timely manner.
- Researches, analyzes and prepares memos related to technical issues.
- Supports global tax planning and other process improvement initiatives, as well as other tax related matters.
- Maintains tax controls schedules and process documentation.
Client Relations
- Liaises with internal client reporting groups, including directors and controllers to gather all information necessary for preparation of global tax provisions and implementation of global transfer pricing policy.
- Liaises with external auditors for the global tax provisions and note disclosures of the audited financial statements.
- Interacts with the Canada Revenue Agency and other foreign revenue authorities to resolve payment, tax issues, and assistance with audits as required.
Process Adherence / Implementation
- Actively involved in enhancing internal control procedures in place for the tax team.
- Ensures compliance with internal control policies.
Continuous Improvement
- Conducts adhoc tax research on various topics including, but not limited to, US and Canadian sales tax, US and Canadian Corporate tax, and other topics such as doing business in other parts of the world.
- Keeps current on tax legislation and administrative changes.
- Highlights potential impacts and required changes to business processes and systems.
- Special projects and/or ad hoc reporting as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- University Degree in Business/Accounting or professional certification (e.g., CPA CA).
- Minimum 3-5 years of tax experience.
- Must have knowledge of Canadian corporate tax legislation and experience conducting tax research.
- Working knowledge of US corporate tax legislation and experience considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Canadian and US indirect tax considered an asset.
- International Tax Experience considered an asset, particularly exposure in the UK and/or Australia.
- Proficient accounting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High degree of commitment to quality work and accuracy.
- Demonstrated business communication (oral and written) skills, and well-developed independent research skills.
- Proactive and works independently with mínimal supervision.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail/accuracy.
- Oracle experience considered an asset.
- KNIME experience considered an asset.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
- CPA CA.
- CICA In-Depth I or II tax course or MTAX program (completed or in progress).
