**JOB OVERVIEW**
- Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Armed Nuclear Security Officer
- Reporting to the Security First Line Manager, this position is responsible to carry out assigned duties of a Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) or a tactically trained Nuclear Security Officer at a Nuclear Generating Station. This includes, but is not limited to, access controls, foot and mobile patrols, searches, enquiries and incident investigations, monitoring and lock and key control activities.
**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- In accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations: Perform the duties of a Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) or a tactically trained Nuclear Security Officer at a Nuclear Generating Station as prescribed by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission - Nuclear Security Regulations and in accordance with oral and written instructions, company and site specific policies and procedures and applicable legislation.
- Provide access control at site perimeter and station entry/egress posts; monitor, control and record pedestrian and vehicular traffic entering and leaving the station. Conduct searches of persons, packages and vehicles for weapons, explosives and contraband upon entry to the Protected Area; and Category I, II or III nuclear material on exit. Check out vehicles and personnel to monitor level of radiation. Prevent unauthorized entries or possible breaches of security and take appropriate action; arrest and detain intruders until arrival of police. Control and regulate on-site traffic and parking facilities.
- Carry out daily foot and mobile patrols of buildings and grounds to enforce trespassing regulations, and to check on the overall security of the facility. Initiate Deficiency Reports to repair defective security equipment and record and report all irregularities. Provide first aid and assist in water rescue and fire response as required. Respond to alarms on site and at remote locations
- Carry out enquiries and investigations of incidents discovered during security patrols or as requested by Supervisor. Gather evidence, prepare reports, act as a witness and provide evidence in court, as required. Respond to requests from police and fire departments including assisting the police in accident investigations on and off site. Prepare motor vehicle accident reports according to established procedures
- As required in the position of tactically trained Nuclear Security Officer, carry, use and ensure security of apparatus including firearms, less lethal options, communications equipment and other equipment related to the security function. Comply with legal responsibilities, regulations and corporate policies and procedures with respect to carrying, securing and using a variety of less-lethal and lethal weapons systems.
- Participate in station emergency exercises, security drills and crew/platoon practices. Perform designated activities during actual or simulated emergency conditions or executions of Station or Site Contingency Plan in accordance with established procedures and practices. Successfully complete mandatory security and radiation safety training courses and as required in the position of tactically trained Nuclear Security Officer, re-qualify on all equipment, procedures and physical standards to ensure appropriate fitness for duty.
- Provide on-the-job training to new Nuclear Security Officers or tactically trained Nuclear Security Officers as assigned by demonstrating security functions. Provide direction to visitors in terms of site locations and general entry and egress procedures. May, as directed, provide security input at orientation sessions with on-site personnel on their role in maintaining general security of the nuclear power generation facilities.
