Summary:
The Research Assistant will support the research and knowledge translation activities of both the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit (BCIRPU) and The Community Against Preventable Injuries (Preventable).
The incumbent will support the Communications/Research Manager to execute the completion of BCIRPU’s annual deliverables. They will also work to support the execution of Preventable’s annual campaign activities as they pertain to injury prevention research, communications, knowledge translation and public education, specifically to influence shifts in public awareness and behaviour, practice, and government policy.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Communications/Research Manager for BCIRPU and Preventable. Work is reviewed by the Communications/Research Manager, who also coordinates general workflow and advises on priorities. Works in collaboration with BCIRPU and Preventable research staff.
The BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit (BCIRPU)
BCIRPU has a mandate to work with the BC Government, Health Authorities and other organizations to reduce the societal and economic burden of injury among all age groups in British Columbia through surveillance, research and knowledge development, knowledge synthesis, translation and education, and public information for the support of evidence-based, effective prevention measures. Injury prevention in British Columbia is about reducing unnecessary suffering and enabling people to live longer, fuller, happier lives. It is about promoting and safeguarding the health and well-being of British Columbians and reducing the need for health care services. Injury prevention means making choices to minimize risk at all levels of society while maintaining healthy, active and safe communities and lifestyles.
The Community Against Preventable Injuries (Preventable)
Preventable is a province-wide, multi-partner organization raising awareness, transforming attitudes, and ultimately changing behaviours through a comprehensive annual social marketing campaign. A registered non-profit organization launched in 2009, the goal of Preventable and its partners is to significantly reduce the number and severity of preventable injuries in British Columbia and beyond. Preventable and BCIRPU work together in a formal strategic partnership the implement and evaluate the efficacy of the social marketing campaign to effect change in attitudes, and behaviours, with the ultimate aim to change the culture with regard to preventable injuries in B.C.
Work performed will include (but is not limited to):
The incumbent will support the Communications/Research Manager in the dissemination of research activities and knowledge translation efforts.
Assists in analyzing and interpreting injury prevention intervention results with respect to knowledge translation data by performing tasks, such as, assembly, compilation and summarizing of Google Analytics and other evaluation data.
Organizes stock, maintains inventory, and distributes knowledge translation pamphlets and brochures, and other materials.
Assists with conducting research work by performing specific assigned tasks, such as preparing and formatting research documents, including correspondence, research communications and reports, slide presentations, infographics, fact sheets, technical reports, newsletters, posters, presentations, event programs, and annual reports.
- Maintain and update lists and databases_: partner organizations, journal publications, manuscripts, and reports
Supports the planning and implementation of knowledge translation activities and events.
Maintains and updates websites, and gathers and synthesizes web analytics data
Translation of injury prevention knowledge using multiple mediums, including social media
