About the Role

We’re looking for a brilliant, hands-on woodworker who wants more than just a bench job. At The Knotty Lumber Co., we build everything from dimensional tables to epoxy masterpieces, countertops, cutting boards, and architectural features--and we need someone who can jump into the shop, help manage the retail store, and support e-commerce operations when needed.

This role is ideal for a motivated, adaptable woodworker ready to prove themselves and grow. You’ll work closely with our owner and core team, with a path to take over retail and shop operations in the next 1-2 years.

What You’ll Do

Shop Responsibilities
- Build custom furniture (tables, countertops, cutting boards, epoxy/live edge work)
- Prepare components, sand and finish, and assist in production runs
- Maintain shop tools, equipment, and workspace
- Support installation and deliveries as needed
- Collaborate on creative designs and project builds

Retail & Customer-Facing
- Interact with walk-in customers (DIYers, contractors, designers)
- Help customers choose lumber and materials
- Fulfill retail sales, track orders, and answer product questions
- Take occasional videos/photos for our content team

E-Commerce Support (As Needed)
- Help pack and ship lumber orders across Canada
- Fill in during high-volume periods or staff absence
- Support product labeling and order accuracy

Who We’re Looking For
- Reliable, self-starting, and skilled in woodworking
- Comfortable in a fast-moving, flexible environment
- 5+ years of hands-on woodworking experience strongly preferred--especially in custom furniture, cabinetry, or live edge work.
- Experience with live edge or epoxy is a strong asset
- Open to eventually stepping into a shop/retail leadership role
- Comfortable lifting 50+ lbs
- G driver's license is a strong asset

Bonus Skills (Not Required but Valued)
- Carpentry, cabinetmaking, or finish work
- Social media comfort (camera confidence or content ideas)
- Shopify or POS experience
- Ability to quote or estimate jobs

Schedule & Compensation
- Full-time: Monday to Friday (some weekends as needed)
- Pay: $22-$30/hr based on experience and growth potential
- On-site work only (Hamilton, ON)

Pay: $22.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
